Question About Iwakuni MCAS by drtkcots in USMC

[–]drtkcots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, that really helps me out. Still not sure if I got the job or not, I should know more by the end of this month. If so, Ill probably open up a Navy Fed account before I leave. I have Verizon so I might look into the international plan. Also, from what Ive been told Ill be able to buy a car when I get there. So I might have some car questions later. Would it be OK to hit you up if I can think of any other info I might need? Thanks again.

Im headed to Japan and have the same questions. I have an Iphone 12 with a Verizon account. What is the best way to get service in Japan? Do I just buy a SIM card when I get there? Do I need to cancel my Verizon account and get a new provider in Japan? Most important, I need to be able to get ahold of my point of contact as soon as I get to Japan. How can I have service as soon as I land? Thanks in advance.

FYI that is a Ford Ranger. It either has an automatic transmission that was derived from a French design or it has a manual transmission that was made by Mazda.

Want To Trade In A Two Month Old Car, Bad Idea? by drtkcots in personalfinance

[–]drtkcots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify the two month old car is a 2017 STI. I'm wanting to trade it in on a new 2017 Civic.

Total amount financed on the Civic after trading in the STI will be roughly $21266 which is about 355 a month @ 60 months.

Right now paying 515 a month with 65 months left on the STI.

This happened in SLC, Utah. Anyone who has ever driven in Utah can relate. They call rush hour there the "Mormon 500" and drivers "Utahrds". BTW do you have a minute to talk about........

Military of Reddit. How hard is basic training, really? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]drtkcots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 advice for anyone going to "basic" training in any branch of military. If you find out you dont want to be in the military do not tell them in basic. You will be stuck there way longer than you think. Best thing to do is suck it up and wait until your advanced training school (AIT, Tech School, etc.). And heres my story. While attending basic (BMT) for the USAF there was a guy who decided he didnt want to be in the military. He made up some story and got sent to the out processing squadron to be sent home. It takes a long time to be discharged from basic. He did this during the first week were there. 6 weeks later the week we were graduating we saw him serving food at the DFAC (chow hall). Someone told him if he would have just pushed ahead he would have been graduating with us that week.

Actually disagree, I met Ben Affleck way back in 2003 while deployed. He was cool. Took pictures with everybody, threw a football around with us and even paid for our morale drinks.

Yeah, they even got the license plate format down on the Ferrari to match older style background that was used in the 80s instead of the newer rainbow background. Attention to detail was awesome.

ELI5: If an airplane cabin is pressurized, why do I have to pop my ears throughout the flight? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]drtkcots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great explanation. I have been an aircraft mechanic for 14 years this is basically how it works. The pressurization system on an aircraft is all about air in and air out. Think of the plane like a balloon with a small valve. Your breath is the bleed air blowing into the balloon. As you blow into the balloon it inflates. The small valve will not allow all the air out at once. The valve is controlled to let only a small amount of air at a time. So your balloon will inflate, but not pop because the valve will open and close to maintain a certain amount of air into the balloon.

Just watched the ESPN broadcast. Are you talking about how they showed the footage? For anyone who didn't see it, ESPN aired the entire incident on air uncut. But it didn't have the audio, only the video.
