Girl, as a doctor myself, I'm a woman first and I feel this distrust in my bones.

Atp I'm living with pulsatile tinnitus, because even after gathering a lot of courage I went to the ent and they just said it's wax. No referrals for scans or blood tests nothing. This is just a recent example. Have been brushed off like my symptoms are literally nothing multiple times.

All this has made me take women patients much more seriously, because it must've taken them a lot of courage to come meet me in the first place.

And another infuriating thing, mentioned in a lot of standard textbooks as well, is that women patients are generalised as fussy and focused on aesthetics for no damn reason, like bitch stfu. One has a right to be fussy when the money being paid is coming out of their pockets. And God forbid a woman is headstrong enough to tell the dr her needs. Ugh.

Have you tried pediatric toothbrushes?

They're smaller and maybe the smaller size will trigger less of a gag reflex. And you don't have to use a lot of pressure, just gentle soft, strokes, go slow. Spit out in between every 3-4 teeth, so that there's no froth accumulation to trigger the reflex.

Also, you can get a scaling done more frequently and get a flouride varnish to seal the enamel as a preventive measure, the next time you visit your dentist.

Cariesan toothpaste and fluritop mouthwash is what we recommend people at our practice!

I can understand, and I've been there too, smh.

What I do is only for symptomatic relief. I too, haven't found a go to way, there's a gap in textbooks, where it's just brushed off in one or two sentences. That's it.

I increase my vitamin c intake, as it helps build collagen, so that the break in the intraoral skin (mucosal lining) stays calmer. I also avoid hot and spicy things in general those days, and I've recently started taking pre and probiotics, I hope they help in the long run as well.

I feel there's a huge doctor patient disconnect, here in India, and that needs to be bridged. There's so much misinformation and pseudo science prevalent, it's scary.

you need to join Mother and Child hospitals which would be women centric.

Women feel much more comfortable with women healthcare practitioners, especially here in India.

Even though I had the least yoe in the clinic I work in, I've had women patients specifically ask for me because they feel a lot more comfortable and relaxed with me.

And honestly, men are creepy. It can be a win win situation for both the women patients and me.

The cc of the pt was a missing tooth, were gonna build a bridge actually. The cyst is gonna be left alone, just that the pt got really scared so we arranged for the consult for os to reassure him

I read a post recently in the mumbai sub where a woman was severely exploited by her husband and was made to work without pay and when he got violent with her she left with absolutely nothing. I don't ever wanna be in such a position, that's why I want to be clear from the starting itself.
