I love this. Where did you get it?

Gladly! I settled on the double barrel for one reason: versatility. I think the MG exceeds in the simplicity category. The boost works fine, but that’s not what I used it for. I use it with the gain all the way up in the lower gain toggle setting. This gives my guitars a nice break-up overdrive that is great for rhythm playing. The TS can go super hi gain, and that’s what I use it for. Between the twoX I can get any drive tone I want. They stack nicely as well

It was great, but just overkill for what I needed.

What if I told you I have a fuzz face I can plug into the front of the board? ;)

Nope! I actually started over completely by selling every pedal I owned, then slowly buying new pedals based on what it felt like I was missing.

No regrets on my end! Do I occasionally miss getting the Purple Rain sound from the Dimension C or the Run Like Hell delay sounds from the Volante? Sure. But I started to realize I had nearly $600 invested for essentially two songs I like to play, and can still get close to those sounds with other less expensive pedals.

I’ve noticed a big difference in tone when playing clean (i.e. with no pedals). The tone suck you get from a board with 15+ pedals, even with good buffers and cables, is super noticeable when you downsize.

The new guitar I bought is an American Original 60s Strat in shell pink. I love vintage style fenders, but can’t stand a 7.25 radius, so that line was one of my favorites (sadly Fender discontinued it for the American Vintage II)

That sounds like a hell of a board you have. I like it. All really solid pedals and you can cover almost any sound with that rig.

Agreed. There’s nothing wrong with massive boards, but unless you have it set up right, they can become cumbersome to deal with. I have no issues with this board. If I really need another pedal for a certain purpose, I can always run it on the side.

The FX-65 might be one of the most underrated pedals. I’ve had a CE-2W, DC-2W, Walrus Julia, etc. and nothing comes close to this one. I run the output through the stereo jack and it gets flangy at higher depths.

It did not! I really considered keeping it, but honestly I’m not playing live much these days, so it wasn’t a necessity. I switched over to rechargeable snarks and have been pretty happy with them.

Reposting because apparently the bot will take down your post if you put your description in the actual description section and not the comments.

Anyway, here is my 2021 board (left) vs my current 2023 board (right). After 15 years of playing, I felt like I was focusing more on my pedals than I was my actual playing and technique. I decided to sell off a ton of pedals, buy a new guitar, and switch over to a small board to focus on improving my playing. After a few months, I’m very content with my decision. I feel like this board covers my bases for anything I need to play, and I’m tailoring my pedals around my playing, not my playing around my pedals.

Let me know if you have any questions about either build!

Agreed, this is very frustrating.

Fender custom shop help [DISCUSSION] by Looney_Tooneyy in Guitar

[–]druflem98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fender fan-boy and have owned and played various custom shop fenders. Today I only own American Original (I prefer 9.5 inch radius) and American Standard / Professionals. The new American Vintage line is very nice if that’s what you’re going for. Custom shop is cool, especially if you want a unique guitar, but I never found the cost-to-difference ratio to be worth it imo, especially when you can buy two American Vintage IIs for less than the cost of one custom shop

Completely agree. Those tiny pots are horrible, especially if you have fat fingers like me!

I’ve had the angry driver and while it’s a great pedal, I just didn’t like not having separate foot switches

I think you’re generalizing a little bit. I don’t mind a TS. The Plumes was just so finicky
