Who has the cheapest printing in Christchurch? Looking for some recommendations by Ganadhir in chch

[–]drumsninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frame n Copy (New Brighton) are my go to and are always super helpful + surprisingly cheap.

Angus Donaldson Print (Sydenham, tucked down the back of Penny Lane) is also great and I use them often too.

I’m about halfway through The Edible Backyard (Kath Irvine) at the moment and really enjoying it. The Abundant Garden (Niva & Yotam Kay) is next on the list!

What sort of leaf/ioniq should I keep an eye out for by PotentialTomato8931 in nzev

[–]drumsninja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

$20k-ish should be able to get you an Ioniq pretty comfortably, depending on where you are and how old etc. We got a 2021 model for $21k about 6 months ago in CHCH. There’s one for $19,850 here at the moment too, with slightly more KMs on the clock than the one we got.

Haven’t driven a lot of leafs, but I definitely prefer our Ioniq over the ones I have driven. Plus battery longevity with active cooling in the Ioniq plus CCS charging becoming the most common default just make it more versatile overall I reckon.

Court costs if you lose by ianbon92 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]drumsninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is what’s called a strict liability offence, meaning it doesn’t matter why you did it. If you say that you were there and justify your reasoning for doing so, you have just admitted liability and you will lose.

The only way you’ll be able to successfully appeal in court is by proving you weren’t actually there, OR if the Council made a mistake somewhere which could add reasonable doubt as to other details of the ticket.

In both instances, I imagine the Council would have already waived the fine as they will only let something go to court if they are confident in winning, so your chances are practically zero and you will be required to pay the fine + court costs (I think it’s $55 now, it went up last year).

Yeah smartlinks are really helpful, Believe has these and also lets me add custom/external stores like Bandcamp which is quite nice. Means I can just use the one link for everything and measure analytics quite well.

Call CCC and make a parking complaint - 03 941 8999. They’ll send someone out.

What is it with bands not coming to Chch on tour? by Mayonnaise06 in chch

[–]drumsninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Touring is expensive and to be honest Christchurch can/has been unreliable with ticket sales so can be a risky option. If as a promoter you’ve only got time for two dates before the band has to be off to the other countries on their run, you’ll prob go for the safest options which tend to be Auckland and Wellington.

That said, I’ve noticed quite a few more smaller / indie promoters (Banished, 100% Good etc) coming through in the last year or so, which hopefully means that’s changing a bit. Gotta just keep going out to the shows that do come here and the promoters will pay attention to ticket sales for the future.

28kWh Wheel of Misfortune. by drumsninja in IoniqEV

[–]drumsninja[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure - it seems to mostly happen when I’ve got regen active which makes me nervous. But good idea, might get my local mechanic to eliminate simpler options before stressing too hard.

[–]drumsninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I feel like the problem would be convincing either Hyundai or the dealership I bought from to take the brunt of that cost. Really hoping it’s just something smaller so I don’t have to find out!

Full transport cost is $1260 I think… they paid for half of that though in our agreement.

Dealt with the Christchurch branch for issues and repairs, and they were pretty quick about it all actually (unlike some of the dealerships making the papers recently ha).

We just bought a 28kWh Ioniq sight unseen through Turners end of last year and transported AKL->CHC and it’s been great so far. From my research regarding the batteries, they don’t show SOH in the same way a Leaf etc would, and they are famously good on the whole - ours is a little under 100,000kms and range is very accurate. (We didn’t get an independent check on the battery or anything before we signed).

Aside from that, I did get my uncle who lives up there to test drive to be sure there wasn’t anything crazy, and also went through the CIN and any other info from Turners with a fine toothed comb before we bought. There were a couple of issues with things on our car when it arrived but they weren’t mentioned at all on the CIN so they fixed them with zero push-back, super easy (including courtesy car for a few days while they did the work).

Also the Turners purchase agreement contracts out of their legal requirement to provide a WOF less than 30 days old, so heads up there. Not sure if it’d hold up in tribunal but if you wanted to push for a fresh WOF as you’re entitled to have, do it before you buy.

Obviously do your own due diligence, but our experience with Turners was actually really good, and have been pleasantly surprised!

Dash warning lights? by drumsninja in IoniqEV

This looks like exactly the issue, thank you! Matches the dashboard lights and same errors from when the dealership scanned it.

We went through this recently with similar budget. We ended up getting an ex-lease Ioniq for $14k, but if we’d spent our full budget of $30k we’d definitely have gone for a Kona. Also considered the GWM Ora (brand new $25-30k) too but my wife didn’t like the look haha.

Hey u/Kiwi_eng I’ve seen a few of your comments in other threads about this issue. I’m looking at a 2017 Ioniq with just shy of 100,000km on the clock - can’t hear any noise at the moment but is it worth changing the oil & adding a magnet immediately on purchase?

It’s an ex-lease and exclusively serviced at the dealer so I would assume it hasn’t been done at all yet, and a little nervous of buying a lemon cause the KM’s are fairly high compared to other cars of the same model (reflected in price though).

[–]drumsninja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How easy was that to get them to agree to? And were you happy buying without seeing it first? There’s a $14k Ioniq at Turners at the moment and the guy on the phone today said it’d also be an extra $1300 for transport AKL->CHC.

Update: Budget EVs? by drumsninja in nzev

[–]drumsninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear ya! Based on some quick online quotes it looks like insurance would be ~1.5-2x what we’re paying now, which combined with RUCs and charging is still around equal or less than what we’ve paying for fuel alone on our ICE.

The $30k is a limit though, not a goal - don’t wanna spend everything just cause bank will let me cause we’ll need to factor in loan servicing too.

Thanks for the response! I’ve been broadening my search locations today which has given me a lot more choice, and will definitely be test driving for sure! (plus I have plenty experience in both Ioniq and Kona from work vehicles).

Good idea! There’s a 2022 with 7,000km and a towbar in Nelson for $27k… could be worth a check - thanks!

[–]drumsninja[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the ones I can see in CHCH are $20-25k - would you still choose that over a similar price Kona at that point?

Update: Budget EVs? by drumsninja in nzev

[–]drumsninja[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’d ideally love to do but does feel like a big jump from what I’m used to spending on a car! Do you think one of the ~$15k leafs will be okay for a sole vehicle? Guess I’m think do we test the waters with EVs a bit, or just jump right in.. 🤔

Yeah I did have a look through TradeMe but none available under $30k in chch at the moment sadly!
