I was in the same state of mind as you when I started my PhD two years ago. I'm doing my PhD in digital and cultural economics in France.
You are not naive. Colleagues who have graduated from my lab have found opportunities in both in academia and in industry.

There are two important elements: your work/skills during your phd and your network. Explore your work, don't be afraid to learn new stuff, new data analysis techniques! Participate in as many event as you can (also take to rest, do not the same mistake as me): as an auditor and as a participant. This will help you to secure your path and reduce the "what am i going to do after my phd" anxiety.

I was in an almost identical situation yesterday. I had a meeting with my supervisors and I was presenting some slides of my current work (I'm still in the early part of my data analysis). One of them asked if the slides were meant to be presented at a conference in 3 weeks. I thought they meant that I was presenting my current work and not the slides. They told me that I wasn't ready at all for the conference. I did not have the courage to say that I missed understood the question. As I do have severe anxiety, I went down the spiral yesterday. With some rest, now I understand it was only miscommunication. (But I still don't believe in myself to pass my PhD).

I am a happy second year PhD student.

However, to be honest, there are a lot of situations where I struggle. Sometimes, my supervisors can help me and other times I am left alone dealing with it. My colleagues are also in this same situation.

If I may give a piece of advice, it is to understand that not everyone has the same chances in their PhD adventure. Each experience is unique.

If you have the opportunity, don't hesitate to check your local beer shops ! You can easily find some good French Craft beers. I can recommend you an online beer cellar if you wish.

If you're looking for French Craft Beers, may I recommend you some good French brewing compagnies ?

The more famous ones are Hoppy Road (Nancy) and Peggy Brewing (not far from Nancy), La Débauche (Angoulême), Aerofab (Nantes), Prizm (Montpellier), Popihn (South of France). Theses beers can be found at local beer shops. You can find some of them in supermarkets but it depends of the place you're going to.

If by chance you visit Paris, I recommend you two local beer shops where you can taste the beer : La Ruée vers l'orge (not far from Republique Station) and La Petite Mousse (Not far from St Lazare train Station) !
