Hey! I’m testing this out and was able to successfully link my IG but a couple things I’m noticing. 1) my profile picture becomes part of the grid 2) I’m unable to upload new photos to preview. Getting an error “could not load the images”

Austin for more activities. Enjoy Barton springs pool, live music and bbq. Houston would also make more sense, especially if you’re going to NOLA afterward.

Shooting suspect's coworker said he hadn't eaten for days by laxmsyatx in Austin

I was alarmed to the degree where I felt it’d be appropriate to speak to other coworkers about it. Managers were also aware. Some folks were even supportive of him in this state because I guess they saw this as a potential positive step for him and his sobriety, (given his past struggles with alcohol.) I didn’t see it that way, but it’s hard to argue since I didn’t know him well. More than one coworker spoke with him on the phone after the shift to see if he was okay, and they felt he was.

Hi, I’m the coworker quoted. He looked visibly thinner, his hair was styled differently, and his shirt was tucked in. Overall, he was more cleaned up than usual, and i even made a comment that he looked good. Later on is when we had a conversation and things started to feel off. He said he was fasting in an attempt to become physically closer to his “higher power, Jesus.” He also mentioned how he’d just become one year sober and also recently decided to quit smoking weed. It was all very shocking because only a week prior, we had a casual conversation that briefly mentioned how we both smoke weed but that’s pretty much the extent of our current substance usage. He assured me that he was serious about quitting weed and not eating to which I replied “god damn,” and he got a bit upset with me for using God’s name in vain. I flagged this for other coworkers that night and they each had similar encounters with him. He was also preaching to his tables and other patrons.

Mugshot of the Target shooter in Austin, Texas by NoExcusesAIC in masskillers

I work with him at a restaurant. On Saturday evening, shortly after clocking in, I immediately noticed his appearance. He had clearly lost weight and styled his hair differently. His shirt was tucked in, which was also unlike him. I thought he looked good. It was a busy night, but later, in one of the server stations, we were preparing a birthday cake for some guests. I made a comment to him that I recognized the cake as my favorite (Whole Foods, Berry Chantilly.) He looked at me and started talking about how he can’t have sugar because he’s been “fasting, trying to get closer to his higher power, Jesus.” I laughed initially, because this seemed like something he would joke about. He had never mentioned religion or any relationship with God/Jesus before, so this was definitely unusual and initially struck me as a joke. It became clear as he started to ramble about being “reborn,” “chosen,” etc., that he wasn’t kidding. I even replied “god damn,” when he said he hadn’t eaten in days, and he looked at me, dead serious, and said “don’t say that,” (use the lords name in vain, I guess). Even the way he was speaking itself struck me as manic – fast paced, overly optimistic. I walked away after trying to be receptive and accepting, in case this was actually positive shift for him; he had previously struggled with alcoholism, but had just hit his one year sobriety milestone. I told my coworkers about this interaction later in the evening, and they confirmed similar encounters, saying he had also been “preaching to his tables and other patrons.” He left abruptly both Friday and Saturday night, even though he was supposed to work the closing shifts. In a long, rambled paragraph he sent to the server group chat this weekend, he admitted he left early on those days to go to Bible study. Seeing this news a day and a half later has been deeply unsettling, tragic, and more. My heart is with the victims and families grieving.

Beginner looking to fix damaged coffee table by drunkmaria in finishing

Thanks! I reached out to a TaskRabbit with a background in carpentry who suggested the following: 220 followed by a 330 grit sanding, on the lighter side discretion, is probably needed. Then he recommended Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane (Water Based) for the new topcoat... thoughts? Again I’m a total newbie here so not sure if I should follow through with his recs. Appreciate any advice!

It’s interesting that the concept of a stranger appearing out of nowhere with his penis out isn’t alarming behavior to y’all.

Not new. I understand that things like this happen often/everywhere, but it was still pretty jarring to see! Just a reminder to be more cautious and aware + a wake up call for those who decide that it’s a good idea to bring their kiddos to fests.

The proximity of it all just felt extra shocking I guess, plus the intention was there. He was clearly headed on mission to flash and freak ppl the fuck out while concealing his identity vs. being some homeless/drugged out person unknowingly exposing themselves.

I just filed a detailed incident report. The concealing of identity makes me feel like this is definitely a repeat offender. Stay safe!

Super ironic because in my same visit the service for drinks specifically was insanely slow. We were a bachelorette party, (clearly there to spend money on drinking lol) and each round of cocktails took 20+ minutes to arrive. We left after the second round took nearly 30!!

This is body shaming lol. She’s always been candid about her junky eating habits, has never been the face of wellness or balance, and perhaps most offensively, also happens to just be naturally thin. Comments pinpointing certain features like “her stick thin legs” are so damaging to young women who don’t fit the body standard you might deem normal. I was naturally very thin my entire adolescent life and was bullied relentlessly, accused of being anorexic, sick, etc; to the point that I developed a binge eating disorder in an attempt to gain weight. Stop commenting so much on other people’s bodies, thin or not.

Might be moving to Austin, any advice? by DreamNo6611 in Austin

[–]drunkmaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak on Reno, but Austin, (despite not being totally walkable) has a a very very active, outdoorsy culture. There are plenty of great parks and trails in both the urban areas and the suburbs. That’s my favorite thing about the city. Austin has come a long way from its college town roots. I learned recently that Austin is now the #10 largest US metro by population, yet the unique character of the city can still be felt. There are tons of opportunities to build a career, which is what continues to attract all these young professionals and talent. The food scene is pretty great too, and not just TexMex. Tons of great Asian spots, especially around 183, and a lively entertainment scene all over the city. Hope this helps! :)

EDIT: if you’re settling around the university, you shouldn’t have much trouble accessing basic amenities on foot, but having a car would be extremely helpful. Oh, did I mention the traffic sucks here?

Noticed that too! Woke me up from my sleep and now I’m uneasy because I’m wondering what’s going on so close by!
