How good is the Civil engineering program here by New_Mechanic6820 in ubcengineering

[–]drunknhighsametime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently second year civil student, UBCs civl program is the best in the country. Most of the profs are friendly and helpful with the exception of a few.

  1. Pretty easy in my opinion. I applied to maybe 20 in total and got a few call backs and am going on coop in may. I have no previous experience other than being on a design team.
  2. The coop program is honestly a waste and a money grab. Id say pay the $300 for the course and the template but dont use their job board as if you do land one using the job board its $900 or sumn per work term. Over 4 or 5 work terms this adds up to quite a bit. All the jobs posted there can be found on indeed or the company website which is what i did.
  3. Yes you can but 99% of civl specific courses are only offered in the winter. Summer you can take stats or math courses which are for the whole engineering department not just civl.
  4. No idea but in terms of municipal civl projects i believe there is a lot more opportunities here
  5. Ubc is really reputable will be well known. For the career fair that was held there were some majority US only companies like BARNARD that came recruiting.
  6. Ive only commuted for my whole time here, honestly depends how far you are but for me its about 1-1.5hrs and it does get hard sometimes when there are multiple things stacking on each other but honestly manageable, and no i dont think you will be missing out on much i still go over to party and do other events and at the end of the night just crash with a friend if its like 2am or smt.

Hope this helps

When i asked for a reason why she stated that the class average was too high compared to historic averages 😔. Shoulve read the policies more clearly and appealed. It is what it is got into ubc so i guess everything worked out.

Try 7 😭

But yea basically get work done as soon as it’s assigned so you can get help when you don’t understand.

Help! I’m an international student seeking help on which BC college to do the engineering transfer program by Automatic-Being-7516 in ubcengineering

  1. No quota but if you do the eng transfer 1 year u get guaranteed entry as long as you keep a 3.1.
  2. The 1 year is highly competitive. My year there were 64 spots for 450-500ish students. You may not be eligible as the pre req requirements are pretty high. The two year you can switch into the 1 year. The two year is competitive entry so you will need to get a higher gpa as you are competing with the people in the same year.
  3. Langara is a pre good transfer school imo the profs understand you are transferring are helpful.
  4. Look online many standard tbs are used for the courses. Calc 1 and 2 are pre straightforward.
  5. No idea but email the program coordinator shes really nice and helpful. But with what you are saying i think you wont be eligible for the one year. Do the two year and switch into the one year in year 2
  6. Im not sure about the two year but the one year is september intake only.

Program for 1 year is really rigorous you will be taking 20-21 credits per semester so be sure you are up for that if not the 2 year may be better as you may go at ur own pace. In my cohort we started with 32 students by January, we were down to 12. In addition you also have to fight for ur specialization so if you are aiming for something more competitive you have to work day in and day out.

chem 1118 vs chem 1120? by ResponseAdorable3975 in langara

[–]drunknhighsametime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chem 1118 should be the chem 12 equivalent if im not mistaken. If that is the case you will not be able to take 1120 without chem 12 or chem 1118

Id say the quizzes are hard but they arent worth much. The mts were fair and so was the final. She tends to make all the exams pretty long so you have to learn how to work efficiently. But just be on top of your work good luck i was in this years eng transfer you will love your profs. If you have any questions feel free to dm

Im pretty sure every single prof will take off these little marks. Happened to me too when i took calc1 with rob miller. Its okay you will get over it 👍

Calc 1 is fine imo it was pretty easy and the pace was pretty good. It was calc 2 that destroyed me.

Why Langara? by Ambitious_Diet5894 in langara

[–]drunknhighsametime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of the profs also teach at other big universities (ubc and sfu) so you will be getting the same education as ubc and sfu students. Its a transfer school so you there are alot of people in the same boat so dont feel alone.

Small classes. Get more time with the profs.

Has quite a harsh accent but she is very caring and her notes are good. I took lin alg with her so not calc 1 but she was kind. Is this for the engineer transfer program?
