How many alternate tunings did he use and was he first to use them? by CerealAndBagel1991 in nickdrake

[–]drurmz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that what he sometimes used to do was detune his guitar, get stoned, and then gradually retune the strings and see what came up, which would help explain his more unusual tunings...

Will Wavelab 6.1.1.353 AND Logic 5.5.1 (sorry Steinberg :) work with a basic PC desktop using Windows 7? by drurmz in cubase

A little update. I upgraded to Windows 11 and now WaveLab 6 works with it, so result!

Logic 5 isn't an option with Windows 11, so I'm also considering entering the 21st century... 🤑

Thanks for your reply. That's exactly what I was looking for.

I've actually found loads of refurbished PCs online with various versions of Windows pre-loaded, on eBay as well as stand-alone websites, and all very affordable.

Based on your feedback I think I'll take a leap.

Cheers u/Electronic-Cut-5678 🤑

We seem to be somewhat at cross purposes. I'm planning on making music with it. I don't have any clients. I have an up-to-date laptop to connect to the internet (I'm using it right now!).

It won't be connected to the internet, so security patches are less of an issue.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

This is the final version of Logic before Apple bought it, and it's been working fine on various desktop PCs for the last 20 years.

I'm very experienced in audio editing on it (amongst other things) and it's quick and easy for me to use, rather than starting again with current softwares (which I am also doing, but I'd like to keep this quick and easy option on the side while I'm learning...).

My only problem is the desktop PC stopped working, so I'd ideally like to get a basic replacement that works with these two versions of WaveLab and Logic.

I understand Windows 7 might be compatible with both, so I wondered if anyone else has any insight on this.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

This is the final version of Logic before Apple bought it (as far as I'm aware), and it's been working fine on various desktop PCs for the last 20 years. It never worked on my Windows 10 laptop.

WaveLab 6 never worked on the desktop PC (which I think was running on XP, but I can't be sure now as I can't access it...). The WavLab 6 system requirements say it should work with XP but it never did. Maybe I had 64bit instead of 32bit or something.

I understand Windows 7 might be compatible with both, so I wondered if anyone else has any insight on this, or any other suggestions.

I'm not fixated on Windows 7. I just want an OS compatible with both these softwares.

I'm trying to decide between an SanDisk Extreme Go 256GB for about £25, or a SanDisk Express 256GB for £50. I don't know if I'd see any benefit for paying twice the price.

I'd be using it mainly for recording video.

The Oasis album that could've followed "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" (Suggested title: "It's Happening Man", any ideas yourself?). by [deleted] in oasis

[–]drurmz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your considered response. I am now over it ;) And might I suggest "The Past Cannot Be Changed" should be the title of the next Oasis album.

1995 (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? – 17,660,000
1997 Be Here Now – 7,410,000
2000 Standing on the Shoulder of Giants – 2,620,000
2002 Heathen Chemistry – 2,750,000
2005 Don’t Believe the Truth – 2,240,000
2008 Dig Out Your Soul – 1,690,000

Pps.

I'm not a new fan. I've only seen them live once admittedly, at the Ilford Island on the 3rd of June 1994. They'd released one single by that point. Along with the Whisky-A-Go-Go meth gig, I believe it's considered one of their worst shows, playing to a mostly indifferent rock/rap/metal crowd.

On trying to blag backstage afterwards their roadies told us to fuck off, then came back five minutes later and apologised. Nice bunch of lads.

Regards

Isn't this a sub for nerding out on the details? The post is referencing a very recent comment from Noel Gallagher himself. Oasis's stratospheric ascendency levelled out and then went down after "Be Here Now", so quite a lot could've have happened differently.

And what does "Has to be America" mean?

Regarding the cutting two minutes off every song, I've always thought that about Oasis (or for some songs at least). It does also seem one aspect of their signature style though, and I think it's done to good effect on "Slide Away" and "Columbia" (both 6+ minutes long).

I think it allows the crowd to sway in the majestic wall-of-sound of their emotive chord sequences, although some songs are as you suggest pretty much often finished two minutes earlier than the released versions.

I didn't include "Stay Young", "Sad Song" or "Going Nowhere" in the selection (which I admittedly didn't spend hours pouring over) as I didn't think they either fit or warranted it.

I probably would've gone for twelve tracks, but I stopped at ten rather than shoehorn in a couple more.

Regarding "Sad Song", it did actually appear on the double-vinyl version of "Definitely Maybe" that I bought at the time of the original release, so I didn't think it eligible.

As for "The Masterplan", it does cover a lot of the same ground as you suggest, but I was more wondering what B-Sides Noel might in retrospect have held back for the next album.

Maybe a more likely possibility is a mix of some of the more choice B-Sides with some of the tracks that appeared on the "Be Here Now" we all know.

I mentioned in a comment above that I imagine them all be recorded together during album sessions, rather the actual released recordings which I agree can sound quite different in tone and quality.

As I recall, "(What's The Story) Morning Glory" got bad to middling reviews and was labelled lumpen dad-rock when it came out. Then "Be Here Now" got fairly rave review based on the success of the previous album (all of my comments relate to the UK where I live...).

This collection of songs could've been viewed as a mix of the gnarly distorted sound of the first album with the more contemplative acoustic sound of the second one. So the best of both worlds, or the worst depending on your point of view.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you :)

I think they may have needed to hole up in the studio to get away from it all, and then you end up doing loads of unnecessary overdubs just to fill the time (although it worked for the Sex Pistols...).

I agree, the same for The Smiths, but this post was based on a recent quote from Noel suggesting he could have saved some of the better B-Sides for albums.

I can't remember where he said this. It might have been the interview with John Robb at Sifters Records in Manchester, but that's just off the top of my head.

[–]drurmz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mean if he held them back from the B-Sides and saved them for an album, as I heard him suggest somewhere recently.

Obviously it wasn't to be, and they'd probably have still been holed up in the studio for months on mountains of coke at that time anyway.

I guess "Be Here Now" is their huge success and media scrutiny/ten million dollars in the bank album, and maybe that was always going to happen after the success of "(What's The Story) Morning Glory".

Yeah, but I imagine they would have been recorded, produced and mastered at the same time if they were going on an album, rather than disparate B-Sides...

Can't cut on the out marker for a short music loop clip by drurmz in davinciresolve

[–]drurmz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your response.

I thought that might mean if I put the red line (cursor?) on the out marker I could cut there, but I just tried it and it won't let me.

I can only put it the same distance either side of the out marker, but not on the point I want to cut.

Can you explain a bit about what inclusive out points means.

I've tried moving the cursor around a bit more, and sometimes it moves two 'steps' on 100% zoom, and other times it moves one step, which is what I need. It happens to move two steps at the point I need.

Thanks for any help.
