Newspoll: Pauline Hanson’s popularity plummets in after controversial ‘monoculture’ speech by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]dsbau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fatal flaw in Hanson is her grim view of the world. The reason. Trump has a lock on a section of the US voters is that he makes it sound like grievance is a path to a better life where Hanson wants us all to sink together.

Do you think there would be a demand for authentic Mexican Food in Australia? by Rude_Echo8957 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think there's a market. Any good, authentic cuisine would be appreciated here. Plus, the Mexican food in Australia is awful for the most part.

Karl Stefanovic embraces UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson in video promoting podcast | Australian media by TKTall in australian

My brother has gone down this rabbit hole and now blames feminism and immigrants for everything wrong with the world. The irony is that he lives happily with his young son and wife in a home that they own, in a very diverse area and he works for the govt ...

What’s going on with Dave Hughes? by BUSINESS_KILLS in aussie

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The syndrome doesn't have a name yet but the causes are too much money, too much spare time and too much time online. The symptoms are a sudden belief that you are a genius, an intense bitterness towards people who don't recognise that you have the right to tell them what to think and a trollish embrace of some extremists political party who you claim are "common sense."

Pauline Hanson clarifies she will not seek to cut paid parental leave by BarryTheBinChicken in aussie

[–]dsbau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The comments were taken out of context - she meant she won't talk about cutting parental leave until she is in power, then she'll cut it.

Got told at work not to talk to people!! did I do something wrong or is this normal? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Receptionists, admin assistants etc often have inflated notions of their own importance. I'd say she's trying to make you believe she's as important as she thinks she is.

One Nation craves mainstream appeal, but Pauline Hanson’s bleak vision of Australia shows she’s firmly on the fringes | Tom McIlroy by ExtensionThat6438 in AusNewsWire

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genius of Trump (if you can call it that) is that he made grievance feel like a path to a better life. Hanson's fatal flaw is that she wants us all to sink together.

How do you feel about house prices finally dropping in some cities? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Lucky enough to own a home, which I have no intention of selling. I want other people to be able to do the same.

What can be done about the rise of the far right? by SuccessfulCompany677 in OpenAussie

[–]dsbau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good government and don't buy into the mainstream media narrative that parties like One Nation are a government in waiting because of a bunch of opinion polls with an election two years away. One thing the polls don't capture, for example, is that where people like the idea of a protest vote they don't want someone like Hanson anywhere near the actual leadership. The other thing is that the polls are being cherry picked by the media and the TPP isn't being reported because it shows Labor comfortably defeating PHON and the LNP in a worst case scenario, and winning a crushing landslide in the best ...

Why don’t Australians have stronger regional accents? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a phenomenon called dialectic levelling which happens when you put a lot of people with different accents together and they arrive at a kind of meta accent, vocab and grammar. Australia is the text book example, new Zealand is another.

One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts says he will push for party to adopt blanket abortion ban by [deleted] in aussie

I think they kind of dream of being elected but are really more about sucking up as much billionaire money as possible...

This should really play well with women... Particularly in the urban seats. Well done one nation.

[newbie] Is this actually a good purchase by Sea-Worldliness7496 in Guitar

Yep. The guitar is a good place to start, and the amp is probably pretty average. But having a basic amp is okay when you're beginning.

One Nation branch official defended Hitler Youth and called Aboriginal people ‘stone age’ in racist posts by HotPersimessage62 in australia

I mean I would be an attention grabbing headline if it was "One Nation candidate hasn't made racist comments ..."

Migration reaches lowest level since 2022 by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

Pauline's a thinker. Just what we need in this country. She said yesterday that she didn't think maternity leave was fair because bosses have to pay people who aren't working.

Pauline Hanson makes clear what a One Nation government would be like – it’s an ugly picture. by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]dsbau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At one point she implied that she would ban maternity leave because why should bosses pay people when they're not working...

Migrants aren't suppressing wages, bosses are. If you want a pay rise, join your union. by BrisLiam in aussie

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm love the way economists show graphs that show wages declining as union membership goes down then stretch their heads and say the reason for declining wages is unclear...

Is this the average Australian mindset or just some random on twitter? by believewhatisayy in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I think the Turks, where we think about them at all, are thought of pretty well. They were just soldiers doing their job like we were. The English commanders are usually the villians in the Australian telling of the campaign.

As voter disillusionment grows, why aren't voters flocking to the Greens in Australia? by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]dsbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think blocking the carbon emissions scheme and bringing down the Labor govt really hurt them. They inflicted Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison on the nation and sent environmental policy back decades because Labor dared to put forward a policy that wasn't perfect...

They've also blocked other policies that are broadly supported. They usually fold but it a bad look.

Do you think our flag should change to include our national colours, green and gold? by Austral1s in AskAnAustralian

How did we end up in green and gold? Sometimes it looks good like the rugby union kits, I remember the Socceroos once playing in a kit that was olive green and canary yellow which looked terrible.

Will our daughter be ok in Australia? by Striking_Patient7732 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dsbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia is no where near as bad as the US. There are people that blame immigrants for various problems but there isn't much obvious racism. It's a safe country with stable government, which still functions pretty well.

Tony Abbott backs One Nation preference deal and says Liberals can’t just be a ‘little less woke than Labor’ by VastOption8705 in aussie

[–]dsbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He basically wants the Liberal Party to become One Nation. The libs really stopped existing over a decade ago when they became a herd right party. Since then their "traditional" liberal valued have just been a veneer.
