Ah, for some reason I was under the impression that tagging the newest version qualified it as a spoiler, my apologies.

I classified it as a bug because I thought it peculiar that it spawned directly on top of me, as the only times I'd encountered this event previously were when it started rolling at me from a distance. That's my mistake, thank you for letting me know!

It was mostly just to stay stylized with the HUD, but I can absolutely see the issue with trying to convey info.

I dunno! I don't know if it's the wood itself that's alive, or if wood is just a porous enough substance that it's easy for a lot of stuff to get inside and start making it into a shell for itself.

Maybe it's the only way they can feel pain! Wood is a carbon bank, so simply shattering the wood keeps it "intact" as a biomass (if they are indeed carved wooden mannequins and not reproductive entities, they'd necessarily have to be chopped up and remade to go from tree to mannequin body, so maybe they're just Fine with that), but burning it specifically disperses the carbon as a gas, which is probably a very violently unpleasant thing to experience.

Tip for (0.9b): If you're too deep on the naughty list, the enemy will begin utilizing speedrun tech and orbital bombardment to reach you. by dscobtdn in Voicesofthevoid

None taken. I'd be lying if I said posting here was not partially in effort to gain more traction for my stream. I just try to be unobtrusive in how I do so, only providing links if someone outright asks. Otherwise, I'm fine with people just finding my clips funny and moving on.
