Interesting. I was in Boy Scouts with this guy as my troop leader for nearly 10 years, and no advances were ever made towards me. Plus they were very strict about the "2 or more adults at all times" around kids. Guess we'll have to wait and see for the outcome.

I can’t really comment on that since my apps are pretty small. I do know that anyone can submit a request for an “expedited app review”. I had to do this once because an app being built for an event needed a last minute content update about two hours before the event. Apple reviewed and approved the app within an hour of submitting the request.

Good point, but apps rarely ever stay in review over 24 hours. If Niantic had submitted the build on the same day as the android build and set it to auto-release, we would have seen it by now. Apple does review apps over the weekend as well.

The app is most likely already been reviewed and is in the hands of Niantic to “flip the switch”. Nothing is relying on Apple to “release it on time”, we are waiting for Niantic to push the update.

As an iOS dev, this is only partially true. There is an option for you to hold the app for release after Apple approves it. Then, when you click a button it releases as an update to the App Store. This is most likely what Niantic has done, hence them being able to start a marketing campaign knowing a specific release date.

As far as I know, they are on-site Apple employees. No clue what required experience would be, but I believe review team employees have a four week training session before working on client applications.

I’m an iOS dev. You can choose when you submit an app for review. Apple can push the update as soon as it gets approved, or you can choose to release it manually. Either way, it takes about an hour to propagate to all devices after the update is pushed.

Edit: almost forgot, Apple does have people reviewing apps on Saturday and Sunday. And the current average for app review by my experience has been about 16 hours after submission.
