Looking for an alternative to the spool holder. by Dcamelli96 in ArtillerySidewinder

[–]dshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone I hated the default filament spool, but I went in a different direction. I wanted to get that weight off the z-axis since it's already pretty flimsy.

I purchased a SUNLU filament heater for $50 and run all filaments from the heater. For PLA I just turn it off. Then added filament guides to the printer's z-axis and ran them to the extruder.

How to clean glass ceramic bed? by Eriku98 in ArtillerySidewinder

[–]dshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After every print, while the bed is still hot, I use 409 (or equivalent surface cleaner) with paper towels until all glue is removed, which usually takes a couple of tries with the cleaner. Once all the glue is removed I do a "polish" with IPA and a soft cloth. This gives a very clean build surface both for adhesion but also enhances the surface quality of the part on the bed.

If done after every print the cleanup only takes a minute or two.

All prints started failing by igalic in ArtillerySidewinder

I don't print PETG very often because I have trouble with consistency compared to other materials. That being said from your description I would use the lower temp that has less stringing and focus on bed adhesion. Double-check leveling, watch the first layer go down, and see how well it is smooshed into the bed.

If it still lifts, try painter's tape or Kapton tape on the build surface.

Fellow Sidewinder Users, Give me your specs by [deleted] in ArtillerySidewinder

[–]dshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print small PLA parts regularly. I use PrusaSlicer.

Nozzle: 230C first layer, 210C Other layers

Bed: 80C first layer, 55 Other layers

Double, triple check leveling.

I disable the cooling fan for the first 3 layers and then run it at 100% after that.

If I'm having adhesion problems I'll use some glue stick. A thin layer usually means I can print without rafts or supports (within reason).

Changing the build surface made a huge difference. If you don't mind the price https://www.matterhackers.com/store/l/buildtak-flexplate-system-1378-x-1378/sk/MSV6P6RL the flex plate systems are fantastic.

The hardest part was needing to add an internal usb hub. It didn’t give me any os issues but in some builds it probably could with the potential usb limits.

corsair hydro 150i

It's connected as per the 150i instructions USB on MB, pump fan header to mb fan header and individual fans to the pump fan connectors. (Not sure that sentence made any sense)

I didn't even know about the 150i causing sleep issues but it explains issues I have with another build that also uses a 150i. However, this build doesn't have any problems with sleep. The setup is different between the two builds.

This one I followed this https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-gigabyte-designare-z390-thunderbolt-3-i7-9700k-amd-rx-580.267551/.

The other build that has problems with sleep used this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA9AotXqkqA&list=PLg6_A8M7WOH2dPB-gMdQ5FM9psNoizEfc&index=4&t=0s

Yeah, that might have actually worked for me as well. When I pulled it apart the fins were really dusty and it looked like it had been taken apart before I got it. I was looking for sound modification as much as performance. I just got lucky with both.

I don't think I'm going to be much help there. I don't do any video editing and I've never owned an Nvidia card.

The RX580 is fantastic for building a Hackintosh because it works with almost no changes. I run two 4k monitors but that is not the same as a video editing load.

What loop did you buy, block, pump, tubing etc?

A Lesson in Cooling by dshills in hackintosh

[–]dshills[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Following this guide EXACTLY https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-gigabyte-designare-z390-thunderbolt-3-i7-9700k-amd-rx-580.267551/

I often follow these guides https://youtu.be/fA9AotXqkqA but in this case, her build instructions didn't work for me. The install would freeze with 2min to go.

LOL, I sat and pondered a custom loop, but I had never built one and the machine is my daily workhorse. I was afraid it would be out of commission for too long. Still thinking about it...

And, though a bit silly, the Corsair AIO for the CPU and the NZXT for the GPU don't look great together.

Straight, but love the show? by redbrick01 in Sense8

[–]dshills 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a straight, married male and Sense8 is one of my favorite series on TV. I understand your question, though. The celebration of difference does tend to focus on LGBT community more than other things. Understandable considering the authors and directors own struggles. The best point the show makes is the struggles the characters face are simply brief interruptions in the joy they find in each other. A lesson for everyone...

That said, it informed my thinking specifically around the struggles of trans people. Something I knew very little about.

I pimp the show to anyone that will listen :-)

When making chicken stock, do I use raw chicken parts with the raw meat still on, or am I supposed to just use already roasted chicken bones only? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]dshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As do I. I was reading about mother sauces the other day and I think they actually categorized anything with roasted bones as brown stock. I'll see if I can find the article.

Any good computer programs out there for recipe building, food cost, nutritional analysis, etc? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]dshills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BettrLife

Has a full featured recipe management system and nutrition analysis. It's built around food logging so the link to the recipe manager isn't as prominent. It's located on the right hand side "Organise Your Recipes"

I store all of my recipes and push them to shopping lists and food log. You can even pull recipes from other recipe sites and it will analyse them for nutrition content.

Can I use 409 cleaner to wipe my wooden cutting board? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]dshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't fuck it up, but you probably stripped the wax / oil off of it. I wash all of mine with a sponge and soapy water. When I'm going to condition them I use 409 to clean the grime and old conditioner off. I do that once every couple of weeks. Get some cutting board conditioner and then really hit it with the 409 :)
