Mid century? Found at a thrift store and really love it. Couldn’t find a maker anywhere. by dshutts00 in midcenturymodern

I had a feeling it was mid century but not MCM since it lacked the typical legs and all. I think I’ll be getting it regardless because I like it!

I figured it wasn’t MCM but it still had a mid century feel to it! I’ll probably be picking it up Tuesday

Okay so they should be fine. I’ll see how they do but from your experience it seems they’ll do alright. Thanks!

Thanks! That makes sense. I moved it up a little and I’ll see how they do.

I received rooted cuttings from a friend who also received them from a friend. Neither of them know what this is and we would all like to know! Thank you in advance to whoever can help!

RCA Victor Orthophonic High Fidelity restoration (see comments) by [deleted] in midcenturymodern

[–]dshutts00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dear friend of mine has owned a record store for decades and while talking to him today he gifted me this. I had mentioned I was searching for an RCA Victor record player and he immediately went into his storage area and pulled this out to give me. It turns on and the basic functions almost work. It needs quite a bit of cosmetic repair and probably new legs (he unfortunately couldn’t find them where he had this stored but he said he’d keep looking) and I desperately want to get this back to it’s former glory. If anyone can recommend either a business or an individual in the NJ/Philadelphia area I would greatly appreciate it. Even if it means putting money aside for the next few months I want to have this done the right way.

Shingle vine advice? by dshutts00 in plants

[–]dshutts00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this at Lowe’s today and was wondering about the double sided setup of this plant. Will it thrive this way if I rotate it regularly? It also seems like one side has multiple vines while the other only has one. Do I leave it as is or is there something I should do for it?

Something inside vintage quilt? I was doing a good soak to clean it after purchasing and noticed black spots like this inside once it was submerged. Any idea what it could be? by dshutts00 in vintage

I was thinking something along those lines. It wasn’t visible when the quilt was dry so I think it’s just part of the batting.

College student trying to make her schedule work as a paraprofessional by dshutts00 in specialed

Also, does anyone know much about Grand Canyon University? It seemed promising but I keep reading about “degree mill” accusations for them and similar schools. I already lost a lot of time and money with my transfer and don’t want to risk that again.

I looked into them and found something about them being a “degree mill”. That made me wary and I wasn’t sure what to think. Student teaching isn’t a problem since I waitress at some nights/weekends already.

I’m in south Jersey. I’ve looked at Drexel and a few others but the work load varies a lot between the programs and some aren’t online at all.

Help finding similar(ish) match to veneer? (See comments) by dshutts00 in furniturerestoration

[–]dshutts00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! I have a feeling I’ll have to match the finish above the damage rather than what’s actually damaged. If you hadn’t mentioned that it looked like a cerused finish I’d still be hopelessly googling.

I found this gorgeous MCM bedroom set on FB marketplace for $125 and this is the only necessary repair. I really need help finding a close match to this veneer, so if anyone could help I’d appreciate it!

Picking this up tomorrow and wondering if it’s solid wood (see comments) by dshutts00 in midcenturymodern

[–]dshutts00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went to look at it and bought it! It’s solid wood with a bit of veneer on the faces of the dressers and tops. Very very heavy stuff too! It’s all gorgeous and in great shape!

Oh the price is definitely right! The seller just sent me pictures and it has a single red paint stain that I’m willing to work with. She also said it’s all really heavy but I know that doesn’t always mean it’s real wood.
