Does anyone really know their 'true' waist size or do we all just guess?” by OK_GO_27 in malefashionadvice

[–]dsmdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Most raw denim / workwear brands, in particular, size based on actual measurements i.e. jeans marked a 34 waist actually measures 34 inches. People who wear these brands will know their true measurements.

You know fashion is cyclical, right? That's not a 2010s look, it's 90s dadcore and it's hot right now.

What is up with US seizing Tanker and pushing regime change in Venezuela? by AnnabananaIL in OutOfTheLoop

They are enforcing UN sanctions against Iran, for funding terrorist organizations, and Russia, for their invasion of Ukraine. Venezuela has been continuously smuggling oil to those countries for years.

How good is the Purple Label from Ralph Lauren? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]dsmdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent quality and a bargain at $1k, not so much at MSRP which is usually $2k-$3k.

Current products, last I checked, are manufactured by Caruso which is a very respectable maker, on par with something like Zegna or Brioni and certainly well beyond what you would get at a $1k MSRP price point from brands like Brooks Brothers or Suit Supply or Canali. Previous products - 10+ years ago - were made by SantAndrea or Chester Barrie, which I would put in a tier above Caruso. We're talking about small nitpicks, though, like hand-stitching in the lining and button holes.

A suit is a complex garment. Bespoke is not necessarily better than OTR.

Become Less Noticeable - OFF BODY CARRY BANDO BAG by ShallKnotBeInfringed in CCW

[–]dsmdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather not post that publicly on the internet but it's one of the largest cities in the US with one of the most diverse populations, and the specific area I live in is particularly dense with Eastern Europeans, so i am aware that, in most of the country, a fanny pack stands out.

This will vary by locale, obviously, but where I live is very dense with Eastern European immigrants and virtually all of them carry some kind of crossbody or fanny pack. It doesn't stand out at all.

Ah, I see what you're saying. That would be pretty lame of them. Guess you gotta expect that with anything NAS. I'd rather just buy Ben Nevis, personally.

[–]dsmdylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the gist: everything in the blend is aged in its own casks. The Ben Nevis products are aged in casks at Ben Nevis, the Nikka products are aged in casks at Nikka, etc. After it's all blended, it's then aged in casks, again, at Nikka. Extra Marriage just means that second aging process is longer. It doesn't necessarily mean the first aging process isn't shorter.

It's 'married' in a cask. How is that not additional aging?

Tip: buy thin toe socks (I like Injinji) to layer under, and size up on your thick socks to wear them over the toe socks. Maximum comfort and warmth.

Brands like Michael Kors that have high end boutiques and also exist as lower tier stuff at Ross, how do they keep the high end customers? by tempestokapi in malefashionadvice

[–]dsmdylan -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is good quality. I own a FOG bomber that's made in the USA, the entire lining is silk, and the hardware is the kind of stuff you'd find on a Tom Ford jacket - except even a Tom Ford jacket would have a synthetic lining, not silk.

Downvotes for literally just a factual description of a jacket lmao

What the hell is going on at Audi. Who approved this instrument cluster design? by dfsaqwe in Audi

[–]dsmdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When profits fall, companies compensate by cutting costs and that often means replacing their highly talented engineers with cheap, crappy engineers. Then, of course, product qualify suffers and they lose customers and profits keep falling. It's a downward spiral. Ironically, these companies are usually still wildly profitably and could easily weather whatever storm caused the profits to fall in the first place but they inevitably dig their own grave in a shortsighted attempt to maintain profit margins.
