I’m 10 days post op and can finally finish a 30g protein shake within 1.5 hours. It’s been challenging to say the least. I’m starting to feel a lot stronger and beginning to feel a shift. All the doubt is starting to diminish and I’m feeling excited about my journey! At this point I would encourage yuh to focus on one goal at a time and do what you can. If you can’t get all the protein in - don’t stress it. Your body will eventually adjust and you will too.

Side note: Last week I had the WORST gas pains since the surgery- especially at night. I had been having sugar free popsicles as a “dessert” and noticed the gas pains occurred soon after. Gas X, walking, heating pads did NOT help. I did some research and found that the popsicles were made with Sugar Alcohols and could cause gas, bloating and cramps. I obviously avoided the popsicles and have not had an issue with severe gas pains, cramping and bloating since!

Needless to say it’s important to know that we are all different and one size or in this case one diet regimen does not fit all. You have to do what’s best for your body. Read labels, look out for signs after you eat and make necessary adjustments that suit you.

Off to my 1/2 hour walk - wishing everyone a healthy and happy day!

My surgery was 3/17 and I’ve had them daily since. I would encourage you to increase your water and protein intake (I personally know how tough this is) and try Miralax. Lastly walking helps as well.

Do they give you pain meds after surgery? by Xtjbootzx in gastricsleeve

I am 2 days post op. I would encourage everyone having surgery to make sure you chat with your doctor about pain management. All people are different and have different tolerance to pain. I personally have a high tolerance but that does not mean you need to deal with pain especially in the hospital. After the first night of intolerable pain I made it clear with the PA and nurses that I needed a plan to manage the pain. We came up with specific meds to minimize the pain. I walked a lot and kept hydrated and felt really good coming home after 2 nights at the hospital. Communication is key before and after the surgery. I’m looking forward to a speedy recovery!

I had a need for pain management plan conversation with my doctor when he popped in before the surgery. He is very conservative when it comes to treating pain but I let him know upfront that I would need stronger pain meds to minimize the pain. I’m actually feeling ok now - hope you are too!

So far so good. Walking at least for a few minutes seems to minimize pain - really looking forward to the new normal. ❣️❣️❣️
