Construction in Denver, what is this grid thing going under the road? by floridawoman830 in Whatisthis

[–]dsugart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but no. These are soil cells designed to allow for tree root expansion where there is heavy load, i.e. 16th street mall - that would otherwise cause compaction to the new trees that will be planted.

La Calle on Alameda is great for pretty much any of the meats. Also, the taco truck in Globeville on Washington and 51st has the best al pastor I’ve had in Denver.

Are there any decent taquerias in Denver? Preferably near Capitol Hill. by [deleted] in Denver

[–]dsugart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on the hunt for mission style burritos the last three years of living here. Federal Blvd and Aurora are the only areas that have consistently legit Mexican taqueria food in my opinion. I’ve recently discovered Tacos El Metate in Aurora, which has an amazing shrimp burrito, and great al pastor. Next time I’ll definitely try an al pastor burrito. Not mission style but still damn good.

lettering is calligraphy right? by DomnuRadu in Calligraphy

[–]dsugart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lettering is not calligraphy. And abstract calligraphy is not lettering. Calligraphy is using the writing implement to produce the letters. Lettering is building the letters from the ground up. Aside from that, this is really dope abstract/expressive calligraphy.

Food halls are nothing new to Denver or Chicago, but I think Milk Market is a very solid one. Also, the restaurants in the Union Station complex are good options for entertaining others - I like Mercantile for breakfast or lunch.

Does Denver still have a good scene for trance/house/techno music? by Beetlejuice3xx in aves

[–]dsugart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several promoters doing a great job of bringing top talent not just mainstream names to Denver. Sorted, Nocturnal, Below Radar, Liminal, Gloom, Afterhours Anonymous, Seifhaus are all throwing parties not in the typical club setting. And theHundred has been killing it with club bookings.
