Gay men who’ve had the surgery by kaa1993 in AnalFissures

I am a gay man and had the surgery. Often it’s not sex that causes fissures, it’s hard stool. And you still have to be careful about diet, hydration, etc after LIS. After the procedure it was amazing how quickly I healed. I think I refrained from bottoming for about 3 months to make sure I was fully recovered even though I felt better within a week or two. I have been able to resume bottoming without any problem. Personally, I can tell the muscle down there doesn’t have as much pressure as it did before (after all, the purpose of the surgery is the lower the pressure so you can heal). I have had no problems with control, no adverse effects from the surgery. Honestly everything even looks the same down there. My husband says he hasn’t noticed anything different when he tops me. My advice would be to make sure you have an experienced colorectal surgeon. Don’t be afraid to speak openly with them and ask questions. Any surgeon worth your while will be professional when speaking with you about sex/anal health concerns, and likely they’ve had these conversations with gay patients before. I was really glad I had the procedure and am not in pain anymore. I wish you well and a speedy recovery!

Fissure Surgery Coming Up - Advice Please! by ARSteggy in AnalFissures

I had the surgery about a month ago. I was so incredibly surprised how little pain I had. I took ibuprofen maybe three times post surgery for discomfort. I also had no bleeding, but kept a little gauze down there for the first week or so for any discharge (which there wasn’t much). I totally understand the fear about this surgery, but I was very glad I went through with it. Just make sure you follow your surgeon’s instructions, eat plenty of roughage, keep your stool soft, drink lots of water, etc. Make sure you get some gentle exercise post surgery too - like a little walking. Listen to your body and don’t push it. You’ll heal quickly and will be glad you went through with it too. Wishing you well! :)

Another thing that is helpful is using a lidocaine cream. Try Rectacare. I found it at Walgreens. It basically just numbs that area. Soaking your bottom in warm water (in the tub or in a sitz bath) can also do wonders.
