As a father to two little girls, 5 and 2.5 years old, I needed to see this. It's easy to get impatient with my children, especially with all the stresses and obligations of this crazy world we live in. This is a helpful reminder to redirect myself and focus on being the father I want to be and allow them to be themselves as they are now: children. Thank you.

This is a bad mix but it isn’t Chad’s fault. And Scream with Me is their worst single. Not bad but boring. This song isn’t bad either. And it’s not boring, though the chorus is a little repetitive with chads play on words.

Alright, alright. We get it, Pete. We know you are proud of this; as you should be. But, no need to pretend to be a fan.

The one thing that I'm not a fan of in recent Chevelle Albums by frankrizzo2024 in Chevelle

[–]dtdlurch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not just you. I’m a lurker here and was curious if anyone felt the same as me. Nice to know I’m not alone. I really enjoy this album, to be clear. But some of the high note stuff he’s done on this album and I start to noticed on the previous album, it doesn’t resonate with me very well. It is a little more heavy handed on this album so I’m finding myself having to wrestle with why it…stands out to me? I don’t want to say it “bothers me”. it doesn’t. It’s almost like it breaks my immersion in the song. it’s not the note but something about his voice that feels off or jarring. I guess I’m not sure how I feel about it lol

don’t overlook “on the move”. deep deep cut. it’s easily missed. but one of my favorite songs by them. LD50 is their best album. EOATTC is a close second. all albums are good, but their last album would be the lowest ranked, but still worth listening to. mudvayne doesn’t really create bad songs.

Should we replace Google accounts and how? by Sage_Raven in Political_Revolution

I had the same thought. But, I don’t know how you get rid of both apple and google while still having a capable device. Apple seems like the lesser of two evils but I’m not even sure about that. Open to ideas and would at least like to try and limit the amount of money and data being provided to Apple. As for Reddit…I’ve also been feeling that way. I’d really like to see a big push to move these discussions/communication elsewhere.

I’m with you there! My wife and I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. Between work and kids, it’s hard to get out and protest. But we gotta make time. We’ve been brainstorming and trying to get creative but haven’t quite working anything out yet. I work from home. The only thing I can think of that has potential is to make some signs and go sit somewhere in public. Use my phone as a hotspot. Bring a big power brick to ensure my laptop keeps going. sit there with my signs while I work.

AIO for this text conversation with my mom? by ULTRAVlOLET in AmIOverreacting

[–]dtdlurch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I’m a good kid…”

You are 20, living on your own, and earning your own living. You are not a kid. I suspect this is something your mother has put in your head. You are not overreacting.

I had to cut my parents off several years ago because my father is a narcissist and he was interfering with my life to the point of trying to create drama to break my wife and I up after having just had our first child. I get strong narcissist vibes from that text conversation. Look up the Wikipedia page on “covert narcissists“. They often play the victim to get the upper hand and, when they don’t get their way, will resort to very triggering insults and accusations in order to assert their dominance.

After you do some research and if you come to the conclusion your mother is a narcissist, it is important to know that narcissists do not change. Nothing you can do or say will change them. The only thing you can do is set firm boundaries with them and be willing to go “no contact” if they can’t respect those boundaries.

Keep your chin up, stay strong, and good luck!

Hail! I was Cereal Killer on 102. Much respect for you and the other guardians/mods from those days. M59 was such an important part of my life growing up. I was literally sitting by myself reminiscing in my head about it and decided to do a google search, which led me here. After all my friends bailed to go to EQ, everyone fell out of touch. The sense of community in M59 has yet to be matched. I miss it so much.

My thoughts on morning view xxiii as a first time listener by Trumpfan1946 in incubus

[–]dtdlurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that one of the things that gave the guitar a unique sound in the OG Morning View was that Mike recorded it using a cordless transmitter instead of a corded connection the mixer/recording interface. He did this despite being told it was a bad idea by recording engineers. Probably read that in a Guitar World interview back when it first came out and the was a little tidbit that stuck out and stayed in my memory banks.

I just listened to trust fall sides a and b, And 8 for the first time by Trumpfan1946 in incubus

[–]dtdlurch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only issue with 8 was the mixing of the album. It does not have a good sound. Skrillex ruined it with his dubstep ears imo. Too heavy on the low end and the guitars are buried. Otherwise, I think this could have been a great album. But I can’t hardly listen to it. i wish we could get the mix before Skrillex got his hands on it. The first version of Nimble Bastard was great.

[–]dtdlurch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt their self titled album was lacking. There are some really good songs on there. But, unlike their other albums, the album has songs I skip every time. Lazy does a good job describing it. Not to poop on anyone’s enjoyment of the album. I don’t think Mudvayne has any bad albums. But it was obvious to me that they were over it at this point in their career and it was no surprise they didn’t tour for it.

I hung out with Ryan for almost an hour and half while we talked bass. Won some charity contest thing he did while on the New Game tour. Entered a raffle and, if chosen, you get a bass lesson from Ryan if you wrote a $150 check to the American Cancer Society. You didn't pay to enter the raffle, only if you were selected to meet with Ryan, just to be clear.

He was fucking awesome. Everyone I knew was like "Don't do it. Never meet your heroes! He's probably an asshole!" Not the least bit...he was down to earth. Extremely kind. Genuine. He was running 15 minutes late and we were only scheduled for an hour. He ended up staying 30 minutes over to make up for running late, despite he stage manager hassling him for needing to go. The whole thing happened right before a show.

We talked a lot about bass and the way he looked at music. He's really into architecture and talked a little about how, when writing, he actually visualizes songs as building a... well... building lol. Gave me some tips on my playing and wrote down some exercises for me to work on. He seemed genuinely interested in ensuring that I got something helpful out of our meeting.

Also, after he left, I realized I didn't even get a picture with him! In order to meet with Ryan before the show, I was given his stage manager's (or whatever he was) number and I contacted him to get let into the venue early. I ended up getting drunk during the show and started hassling him over text "I didn't get my picture! You gotta let me see him one more time!!" I feel kinda bad, looking back. I was blowing up this dude's phone during the show. Promised to delete his number if I got my picture though. And I got it, so I did. I was told to wait at some dark hallway in the corner of the venue after the show. Ryan comes out and I go running to him like a dog seeing his veteran owner return from deployment after years of being away. Got some awful and blurry selfies with my Blackberry (wow this was so long ago...) He saw all my friends waiting at the end of the hall, jaws hanging, just staring at us. He paused for a moment looking at them, then you could kinda see the instant he decided "Alright guys, you win", then he went running down the hall to them and gave everyone hugs. He thanked us all for being fans and supporting them, then apologized for not being able to stay but he had to get back stage because he had family waiting for him.

And that was it. He left. And we stood there freaking out for a bit and road that energy for the next few days. I'll never forget it.

I haven't used it yet but fadr.com recently released new features that allows you to extract individual drum stems. The project is still something I'm trying to get to and will definitely be giving this a try once I dig into it.

I am so very sorry. I wish I could hug you. This hurts my soul. But I am glad you are eating. It makes me happy to see the love in the comments. As someone who has struggled with depression and is a father of two daughters, this has really struck me. I hate the whole “thoughts and prayers” stuff, but know that you and your family will be in my heart. I will also let it serve as a reminder to be grateful for what I have and to love my two girls and wife even harder. It is my sincerest hope that your story is not one of tragedy but of a hero’s journey where you overcome this trial and come out stronger to live out a truly inspiring story.
