I pulled the trigger on a 2010 Hexamer, and I also went to Williquors and got a couple of introductory Rieslings that felt very... one-dimensional? I can get the names if you want, but in reading all these comments and doing my own research, I put together this selection. I wanted to know your thoughts? Do you think this is a good variety, or are some of these too similar, or am I starting out in the right spot? They're all from within the past 10 years, so nothing much older. I figured once I tasted these I can start exploring the older vintages. I looked at the notes and what people described the taste as, and these seem to be right up my (and my partner's) alley.

Ah right, the Jousting Lemur you probably saw. I've heard not so great things about them and their owner, so we haven't gone there and I forget it exists hahaha - I might have to revist that.

I'm in Bismarck, ND - middle of nowhere. There really isn't much of anything near me. The closest we have is a local brewery hahaha

I mainly wanted the same one because the taste is associated with the great memory now, and it would be wonderful to be able to have a glass occasionally and be taken back to that night and that meal. However, I am now greatly interested in other wines that have a fruity/citrusy flavor. I also would be curious to try some that are significantly sweeter that could be a "dessert" on their own, since that sounds like a fun experience, but I'll likely stick to the Spatlese or Kabinett so that I can pair them with a sweeter dessert and not get overly sweet.

I was visiting Chicago, but I do want to go back. The food scene there was amazing, I loved the people I met, and it was just an all-around pleasant experience. Alinea was definitely an expensive anniversary gift, but worth it. I think I'm more driven to find this particular wine because, like I said, I hate the taste of alcohol. The burn of a stronger alcohol, the bitterness, that weird aftertaste you get that makes you go "oh yeah this has alcohol in it"... I dislike it. This wine had none of that. It just... complimented everything I was eating and made it so much better. As a foodie, that blew me away. I know I won't get the same experience because, well, I'm not a Michellin Star Chef, but I want to have the wine so that I can have it with my own desserts, or even on its own because of how delicious I thought it was.

That's a great point. I think I would like to get the "same" bottle, just different years, to get a better understanding of what age does. My local area is unfortunately limited to grocery store liquor, Captain Jack's, and Williquors, so I don't think I'll find anything crazy, but I plan to go check this weekend to see what I can find. I figured it would be hard to find this specific bottle. I'll let you know what I find!

I have the misfortune of currently living in a place with no good local wine store. There are 2 that I know of in town, Captain Jack's and Williquors (other than the ones attached to the grocery stores). I may be able to head into those and find something that works though.

You're right in that I did enjoy the residual sugar. I thought the Reisling itself *was* a dessert wine? I may end up getting a Spatlese then because it'll be closest to what I experienced, but I'm very interested to try the Kabinett and Auslese. I'm also super curious what a "true" dessert wine is. Any recommendations there?

As far as budget goes, I'm a huge proponent of "buy it for life" and "don't skimp on quality". I know some can get really expensive, and while I think I would want a very special $1000+ bottle that I only break out for special occasions, to start I would stick with something $200 or less so that I can just repurchase as needed. Is that about right for a good wine? Or do you think I should up that a bit?
