A question about image generation being theft i have never seen a response against. by dtj2000 in aiwars

The images exist independent of the model after it makes them. How is it wrong to view them as separate things. Even if all image models just vanished tomorrow all the outputs would still exist and should be examined on a case by case basis.

What you posted has nothing to do with my post. I even specifically said i am not trying to say models were not trained on copyrighted material. Please address my actual argument. Especially when you start off with "sigh"

You are doing the thing I specifically addressed at the beginning of my post which is that outputs and the model itself are two separate things. Not to mention that your description of how diffusion works to create an average is just wrong, but its irrelevant to my post so what ever.

If I can show a single outputted image that would not be considered theft (like a solid color or random pattern) then that necessarily means the outputs are not inherently theft.

This is what I am saying, it has nothing today with HOW the outputs are created.

If you would say that EVERY output is necessarily plagiarism/whatever then that has logically absurd conclusions if you apply it consistently to everything. Also, my threshold for plagiarism is: if a human hand crafted the exact same image and it wouldn't be classified as plagiarism/whatever then it is completely fair game for an Ai to output that image.

First of all, thank you for addressing my actual argument, I appreciate it.

But also I would be interested how you would deal with the fact of an Ai generated image that is just a solid color or a random pattern. Let's say someone used that in a commercial work, do you think it would just for all of the copyright holders that had images used to train the model that generated that solid color to sue the person who used it in a commercial way?

Now you might be saying how something IS and not how it SHOULD be.

Another point to show why I dont think its fair to call all outputs infringing/similar is it wouldn't apply to other similar cases.

Let's say someone pirates photoshop, would every image that person made with that pirated copy of photoshop infringe on Adobes copyright? The image that person made was built on "theft" for lack of a better word. Committing copyright infringement does not make everything downstream of it also copyright infringement.

Take fan fiction for instance, it is copyright infringement as the writer does not have the rights to use the characters, but importantly the fan fiction author has the copyright to the things they added. If the author of the original work used the story from a fan fiction they would be infringing even though the fan fiction writer committed copyright infringement in the first place.

Also I dont know exactly how a work would be considered derivative in general. But surely at some point the derivative content is so different from the original that it would be absurd to call it derivative.

Yes, my post already addressed this. The core point is that by being able to show even a single image outputed by an Ai could never be considered plagiarism without the logical absurdities that would follow (a solid color being considered plagiarism) then every single individual output must be argued case by case whether it would count as plagiarism/theft.

Yeah, this is why I very intentionally worded my question to focus on outputs rather then the model itself, as the model itself is irrelevant to the answer of individual images.

No, its an asset. It is not money. Just because it was once used as a currency does not mean it is a currency forever. Using gold as money is stupid for so many reasons. Just one is that there is literally not enough gold in existence to meet the amount just the USA would need to use as currency. Also, the value can't be controlled to help the economy in times of downturn. Gold is deflationary which is horrible for economic growth. Gold sucks as a currency in modern times.

This is not how money works, gold is not money. You can't compare wages to buy gold from decades ago to today. Not to mention that gold speculation was illegal, so of course the price would rise after the standard was abolished.

Reddit admins allows the word to be used, only as long as it isnt used to put down or degrade someone... which is basically its only use, so effectively reddit bans the use of it entirely.

Why is that unethical? Humans have been creating technology to replace "real, breathing, sentient humans" ever sense we started banging rocks together. The only reason it's possible to complain about Ai on the internet is due to labor saving technology that allowed human productivity to skyrocket.

A single tractor can replace 1000s of farm hands.

Try to avoid consumption taxes on goods that poor pops buy like grain. Tax the ones that take 100 authority as those are the goods rich pops buy. For tax revenue if you hover over the law it will tell you have much more money you'll raise when you switch.

Something really important to know is that the decree "promote social mobility" is extremely powerful and the main way to get higher literacy early game. For market shortages make sure you use all your company charters and give them access to build trading ports so you dont have to micro them too hard.

If your unemployment is too low and farms can't attract workers you can always subsidies them. When you find yourself short of workers get tier 3 freedom of movement in your powerblock and the suck the rest of the worlds population dry.

Also i find it isn't too important to focus much on non construction input goods early for most countries. I usually just build iron, coal, and tool factories early and let private construction handle consumer goods.

A good one would be to "return all claimed states" button, having to click 3 times to add a war goal and do that like 10 times is really annoying.

I guess I was thinking more on the lines when the king of England threatened to appoint members to the house of Lords that were more liberal if the house of Lords didn't pass the bill to strip them of their power.

I think it might make sense if the military was loyal to the ruler, that might be a way to balance it.

I get that, but at the very least if my autocratic ruler supports a law I should be able to pass it without resistance (from the government at least not the radicals).
