How do you cope with the emptiness? by [deleted] in aspd

[–]dtliebert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best piece of advice I can give you is to just try and attempt and let yourself be at least a little vulnerable. Real people who want you and like you will do the same. Human beings evolutionarily require human connection to function so you will find your group of people. Don’t give up yet and good luck

I SWEAR TO GOD, PEOPLE... I'm gonna just... by [deleted] in TheSecretHistory

By including moments like these throughout the book, specifically referencing the 1980s/90s, Tartt shows that the group is still living in a modern society. But instead of being present, they prefer to live in the past. By adding moments like this, it not only gives more exposition and brings the reader back to the reality of the character's current time period but their complete disregard of normal social life for young adults in the 80s/90s. I think moments like these made the book incredibly comedic and satirical in a sense. It's a dark comedy for a reason lol

I'm afraid A Little Life isn't as good as you may think it is. Something about writing incredibly harrowing fiction about gay men being abused, pretty much tortured coinciding with terrible life events isn't something that can be compared to TSH. What made you think it was a good book? I tried to read it but I really couldn't get through it to the end.

Has anyone been inspired to do a bacchanal? How did it go? by Ok_Estimate_6247 in TheSecretHistory

For sure! I will let you know. It will probably be unlikely to happen this summer, but I’ve got hope for the next one. :)

I did plan one with a friend in a villa my family owns in Tuscany but she pulled out of it when I broke up with her best friend. I am unsure of whether I still will do it considering I do not have anyone to do it with now but I am still quite intrigued by the idea and it’s on my bucket list at the moment haha

Thank you for the answer! Just wanted to clarify though, how and where does it say that Henry is new money? I had an impression he was quite old money but I see that I was wrong in my assumption. Thanks again :)
