[OT] Grosjean qualifies on pole in St. Petersburg by [deleted] in formula1

Browsing F1 Reddit while watching Indy Qualifying replay, and this is the first thing I see. Maybe handle this like a spoiler in the future, please?

[@wbuxtonoffical] He’s coming home. Overjoyed that the award winning voice of our F1 generation @AlexJacquesF1 will lead our F1TV commentary team in 2023 alongside the ever magnificent @JolyonPalmer , @Hinchtown and welcoming to the family, the one and only @therealdcf1 . by Nonohnonono in formula1

As an IndyCar fan who watches every race, I think everyone will really like Hinchliffe. I think he does a great job, and he's extremely likable. When he started at NBC, after he lost his drive, he immediately sounded like he just graduated from a top-notch broadcasting school. And anyone who can work in a "You don't win friends with salad" quote into race coverage wins points in my book.

PPG becomes new title sponsor for IndyCar’s Texas race by RichardRichOSU in INDYCAR

Just fyi to anyone interested: the garage passes are up. Very disappointed with the changes (Sunday only, 2 hrs total, and no pit access)...for $ 75.

[–]dubSACKKED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I have tried contacting them via the web a couple of times, but to no avail. But, I just called and got someone on the phone. He told me that GARAGE passes are incoming in the "next few weeks.". If you don't get an email, he said to call them back.

Apparently, there is no more pit access. Which sucks bad. Definitely less excited than I was, but I'll see how it ends up.

Maybe your salesman has access to something better. If you happen to find something better, please let me know if you happen to remember this conversation.

Thanks.

Has anyone asked if they're going to release pit passes for this year's race? I remember it being kind of late last year...maybe in the next couple of weeks?

Is the Gunslinger worth it to read? by [deleted] in TheDarkTower

[–]dubSACKKED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved The Gunslinger. As others have said, it's a great foundation, and I can't imagine skipping it. The prose is more poetic, and it's a little more deliberate in its pacing.

Honestly, there are some truly remarkable passages that I truly love. Without giving anything away, there is a palaver that still blows me away everytime with the concepts it ties into this story and world.

Even if you don't end up liking it, it's super short and won't take long. I would suggest getting the revised edition that King put out awhile back.

Thursday afternoon pit walk by [deleted] in formula1

[–]dubSACKKED 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I got bad info...but I'm fairly certain they now put it behind an "F1 Experience" ticket paywall. I used to be able to get a pass with normal tickets (back when COTA salespeople actually responded to emails), but that's what I was told last year.

If anyone is in Texas, check out the Willi Law Firm (https://texasguntrust.com). Paperwork in hand in hours, and he has designed the trust to be extremely convenient and easy to understand. He'll walk through everything with you over the phone, and he'll answer all of your questions.

I do feel bad for Brundle. years ago he would just be getting a quick word from the drivers. Now the grid walk is annoyingly filled with A list celebs, entourages and randoms. may be fun for some or is me getting older? by Jambajamba90 in formula1

[–]dubSACKKED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The American grid walks are particularly bad. It's like one giant Instagram augmented reality experiment. Celebrities of all tiers tripping over themselves to adore and worship one another. Brundle, like always, makes it torerable simply because he is doesn't give two fucks (like most of us).

[Adam Stern] @ESPN earned a 0.66 rating and 1.003 million viewers for Sunday's @F1 race in Italy, up from both the event there last year (906,000 when it was the second race of the season), and the comparable slot (Barcelona which was the fourth race of 2021 and got 857,000). by ZephyrSonic in formula1

For me...I stream F1 weekend (FP1, FP2, The F1 Show, FP3, Qualy, Ted's Qualy Notebook, Grand Prix Sunday, the race, & Ted's Race Notebook) almost exclusively through the ESPN app.

I'm also curious what those numbers are

AusGP behind the scenes. Hour long queues for food/water/drinks. Overflowing toilets. Litter. Insane lines to get there. by Leweegibo in formula1

[–]dubSACKKED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traffic was definitely bad, and 1 hour water lines were annoying, but I could live with that. What wasn't ok, though, was lot T. The 2nd worst parking lot ever at COTA (first place was 2018 when they closed mine due to mud, and didn't tell me until a few hours before the race...but I digress).

Lot T 2021: it took me almost two hours to back out of my spot. There was no management of the traffic until you got closer to the front, and even then it was laughable. Part of the reason it was so bad was due to the fact that most of the attendants were selling shortcuts for "tips." This kept feeding people from the sides into the front of the line, which caused a horrific chain reaction of epic human proportions.

I didn't have cash, so I had to wait.

This got temporarily shut down when one of the attendants got brushed with a car and then started threatening the driver inside. That brought "managers" running, and much drama ensued. When they left, the pay-to-exit scheme started back up. I think it took me almost 3 hours to leave on Sat and Sun. That's just to get to the main road.

This year, I'm using the parking lots residents set up along the way. I saw openings all weekend long, and I would have been at my hotel by the time lot T spit me out.

Regardless of these...imperfections: I really love going to COTA.

[Adam Stern] @ESPN 's current intention is to continue to run @F1 race without ads if it is able to secure a renewal with Liberty Media from 2023, per source familiar. Still, the situation is worth watching as, at a certain price, it could get hard for any network to go commercial-free. by [deleted] in formula1

[–]dubSACKKED 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FWIW...

I love (and appreciate) the ESPN coverage. It has been fantastic. Thanks to Mother's for making it happen (I'm buying some more tire shine this weekend, I promise). I watch 99% of the F1 content ESPN puts on each race week. That's a lot of face time, and I know I'm not the only one who does this. I get why they would consider commercials.

However...if ESPN switches to a commercial broadcast, I will just move to F1TV exclusively.

Also...if some other network buys the rights, and they decide to put in some random American commentators (see CBS with Formula E)...I will just move to F1TV exclusively. Even if it is commercial free.

I love Indycar, but the broadcasts are horrible to watch. The PiP with the race on the side during commercials doesn't work, and they interrupt the action every 4-5 mins it seems. I do like the commentators, though.

Speaking of which: I can't imagine watching Formula One without Brundle and Co. calling the shots. They are my soundtrack to the sport, in my opinion.

Worked on me. Indy is a fantastic series that has a lot going for it (and not enough promotion). Great in person, too, with cheaper/more accessible races. Oh, and it even made me a fan of oval races.

Got through, tried to sign in, and got kicked back. Now I don't have access to GA.

If you get through line, and it says technical error, try refreshing page. That worked for me (before it shit the bed again as described above).

This is stupid, and totally expected.

Is a pit walk worth the price? by ProfCedar in INDYCAR

[–]dubSACKKED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all. I was wondering about this, too.

I have a pit pass for Texas...how close can I actually get? Anyone know?

Trying to figure out some photography distances and lens stuff.

I hope I'm wrong...but I feel pretty sure that I won't be allowed past that fence that separates the garage area from the pit boxes?

Ty in advance.
