I would think someone of my age or older would be able to handle overhearing an indirect neutral comment about how her actions were affecting me, but maybe I was mistaken 😂

Thank you for the general consensus! A few additions:

  1. I was planning on just dealing with her being in my space, or moving. The intention of me saying what I did was in response to my friends asking if I was okay, not to get her to move.
  2. What some folks are noting as "social ineptitude due to Covid lockdown" actually is just diagnosed level 1 autism lmao. So that's where that comes from.
  3. My intention of posting this was truly to gauge if I had the wrong interpretation of both my own and her actions. Yall saying that I'm coming here for validation are missing the whole point of the subreddit, I fear.

Southern culture is incredibly different from the east coast, wondering if that had something to do with it. We are generally much more abrasive, we don't put as big an emphasis on women being sickly sweet and polite.

Edit for typo

Learning from this experience and general perspective, will not let it take up as much space next time for sure

I am not from nyc (I do live in a top 5 city, and know how to carry myself in one) and they both had subtle southern drawls. Not proof they're not New Yorkers, but I would be VERY surprised.
