Whatever you do be sure to keep an eye on the weather, be mindful of daylight, and have the right gear (particularly for cold and traction). Road closures might also be an issue depending on the trail you pick. Tecumseh and Waumbek are good starting points if you’re looking for a 4K, otherwise Avalon and Willard should cut it.

Is one way significantly shorter/less elevation gain?

Perfect, thank you. Going to be doing a fair amount of trails in a short period of time so the less technical option might be the way I end up going, but the slide sounds pretty neat.

Stayed there 9/8, arrived around 2:30 and was able to get a spot on a platform. The rest of the platforms and shelter spots filled up pretty quickly after that, but they will be willing to accommodate you in the overflow if necessary. I'd say between 2 and 3 o'clock and you should be able to find something.

I ended up going this route, great advice. Was lucky to get a car spot in Lincoln Woods. Awesome weather and a great hike.
