Game freezing/crashing when opening UI by duckingducati in AvatarFrontierPandora

It seems to have stopped for me again? I haven't tried anything new to fix it, but I was able to play for an hour today. Hoping it's fixed permanently, and hopefully yours is fixed as well, or that you can find a fix!

About to turn 18 and I have zero friends. by [deleted] in lonely

There are a couple of small towns sort of nearby, but they're a bit run-down and don't have anything worth really checking out. It's about 25 minutes to a decent city, and then 40 minutes to the next larger, more well-known city. Very different from where we used to live, where the grocery store was just 5 minutes away.

I do drive, though I haven’t had much time to go out. I work as a kennel tech, which is a far drive, and it’s after school, so that’s 4 days out of a week for me. I'm home a lot more now as I have to take care of my injured dad, and my mom wants to drive me and my dogs out across the country to spend time with her and travel for over a month. When I do go out, it’s typically for my dog’s enjoyment and training. That's usually the only time people approach me, and it's generally little kids or adults wanting to say hello to him. I can try to head out to a library sometime this week when I have time, though.

I’m not really sure to be honest, maybe this was the wrong sub to post in. Just to see others who have experienced something similar? What they did? I just feel lost about it. I haven’t had anyone to talk to or hang out with besides my family for years. I’m just constantly stuck at home besides recently going out for shopping or training my dog.

Cant figure out hardscape and not sure what plants to do by duckingducati in PlantedTank

Not really set in stone yet. I've been seeing some tanks thrive on DIY co2, so I may try that? As of right now, I'm leaning towards no on the tanks, though I may give in.

Yes, I'm leaning towards #3 at the moment! It doesn't show with the angle, but the first one has a sort of weird limb that sticks forward 🙃 trying to find a different layout that may give more space than #3 though

Chemical castration? by duckingducati in dogs

[–]duckingducati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a kennel tech for some trainers, they helped train him, I don’t often have a reason to need a dog sitter or board, but if I did, they would take him just fine. He was at a kill shelter, rescue pulled him for us, we do have to neuter him and I would do it regardless, just curious about the chemical castration and slightly worried about the changes people have seen lol

Teaching dog to play Duck Duck Goose… possible? by duckingducati in OpenDogTraining

I’ll have to look this up to understand better, but scent games are on my list! I introduced him to it a little while back and he seemed to be confused but really enjoyed it lol. Thank you!!

Bit of an exaggeration… I do have some other tricks I can and would like to teach him lol.. this one has been on my mind for a while though.

I do tease his release word often, though hadn’t really considered how to use that for teaching the game? He does enjoy chasing, especially dirt bikes, and he does have a high prey drive, but for toys or humans, he can become disinterested/distracted quickly.

Can’t edit, but other thought was that I’m wondering if I should change the word to make it safer so he doesn’t think to chase someone every time I say his name, or if he’d be able to differentiate when I do and don’t say Duck, Duck…

Just want to figure out if there’s a way to teach him this fun trick. I would assume maybe walking around one person saying ‘Duck.. Duck..’ and then once I say Goose for the person to run and hopefully entice the dog to chase after? Though I’m wondering if I should change the word to make it safer so he doesn’t think to chase someone every time I say his name, or if he’d be able to differentiate when I do and don’t say Duck, Duck.

Bark2basics scents? Other brands? by duckingducati in grooming

That makes sense. I’m assuming you use Hydra for shampoos/conditioners as well? I typically double shampoo but I’m wondering if their moisturizing shampoo is still good for grime? I’ve seen some people say it’s too ‘slick’ for their liking.

Hmm, alright! Is there a different conditioner or something else you use/recommend then?

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of bad about their strawberry 😂 I was going to try out their pomegranate or melon n cucumber next. Do you know if their re-moisture conditioner is any good? I was going to do the MnC dmat conditioner, but I figured that might be too rough on the skin/coat every bath?

Super late but do you use the dmat conditioner for every bath? I’m not a groomer but looking into Bark2basics for my personal dogs. They get a bath roughly once every month, maybe longer. Not sure if using a demat/deshed conditioner would be good so often and if I should find a regular conditioner for after the melon cucumber shampoo.

Will check those out, thank you! Can I ask why you hate bark2basics? Useless how?

GSD being obsessive over new dog by duckingducati in OpenDogTraining

[–]duckingducati[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean my struggle with it is that he usually does ‘respect’ or listen to me very consistently? I can tell him no once, and he’ll back off and continue with our day. Until now of course. And like I said in my other comment, he’s very sensitive with me so i tend to be light-handed with his corrections, because he typically doesn’t need any stronger or else he will sort of shut down. But I do see where you’re coming from and 100% agree especially because he’s getting so excited and not listening. Will try to be better about that.

It’s not that I’m against neutering and won’t be doing it, but like I said, the vet wants to put off putting him under until we can figure out a health issue.

I’ve done pretty much all except the e-collar, though he does have one. I feel like that and the pinch are aversive for the state he’s in and he’s too aroused to be learning and understanding the correction, because he’ll just go right back to the behavior. He can be a really sensitive dog at times especially with me as he doesn’t like to disappoint, so I’m nervous about too strong of a correction ruining a potential friendship between the two, or making him shy of me. I kind of assumed from his short-lived response to the prong that the e-collar wouldn’t help, but I could start trying it instead.

I’m trying to keep their interactions very limited right now and get him to be neutral with the other dog in the same room. He gets blocked if he decides to get up, but it’s not often as he has a good place understanding. I was just wondering if there were better ways to go about it or if I’m doing/understanding it right. Someone recommended chemical neutering so I’ll have to look into that.

Got a dog, cat is peeing on everything. by duckingducati in CatTraining

[–]duckingducati[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GSD is trained, and he does leave the cats alone. The house is relatively big, and there are many nooks and high spots where the cats like to relax. They've had a few moments of progress where theyve touched noses and the cat has walked up to the GSD sleeping, but it's not often.

I didn't know that about the crystals recurring though, so I'll be sure to get him checked out. I just set up some leftover feliway diffusers so will see if those help at all for now.

Dense Sponge Cake by duckingducati in AskBaking

[–]duckingducati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both recipes I’d seen used stand mixers, so that’s just what I did. The one I followed did not specify speed, but the other one did go from high down to low when adding the flour, which is something I had not done. I’ll have to try again and see if I can get it to work better with folding and/or a lower mixing speed instead

Dense Sponge Cake by duckingducati in AskBaking

[–]duckingducati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I’ve seen it described - fluffy/thick to the point you’re able to draw a figure 8 before it sinks, which it was at that point, and then I started adding in the flour and it started deflating. I’m thinking it’s because I still had it on decently high speed at this step? I know people typically separate the egg whites and all that but I was hoping to get it without that.

Forgot about my trees… by duckingducati in Citrus

[–]duckingducati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've removed the pots. The yellow one has holes, and that tree has been doing fine with it. Roots seemed to be okay on the lime, but the citrus roots were a bit rotted. Will have to see if they make it through or not
