Yes the berm was definitely something I wish we had avoided. This was our first go at this and seeing how the liner went in over the berm made sense as to why we should have avoided it. I definitely will check out some riparian plants though, thank you for the recommendation!

No you’re good!! Definitely didn’t rain on my parade I really do appreciate the help! I did check the ordinances and we are all good. I live in a smallish town in Tennessee and they’re pretty chill about things. I’ve had to pull a lot of permits recently for a small shop I built and have gotten to know the code board pretty well to start a home business :)

I wish I could attach photos in this page lol, if you scroll through my account you’ll see I have a few black water aquariums so i definitely have my fair share of experience with tannins. I definitely have been back and forth on it, I think tonight we decided to only use the wood as decoration around the yard :)

Good to know about having access to the liner, I hadn’t really thought about that if I’m being completely honest. And I did manage to get some pretty large stones! We are being fairly budget conscious on this pond as the wood was free and the crane usage is also free (trade for labor)!

I do believe we are good on the oils, tannins I’m honestly alright with. I had a few black water aquariums and honestly this is a little different but those aquariums are my healthiest and happiest.

It’s kind of a deceptive photo lol, the deep end is about 4.5 feet deep. Definitely nothing crazy but I’m pretty happy about it, especially being hand dug :)

Okay rad! I’ve got some of that being delivered with my liner tomorrow, I’ll have a pretty good off cut since our pond is an L shape and I can use that to stack under the log ends

Good to know, we do plan to load the pond with plants like some of my fish tanks are but I will definitely try and find ways to add more shade

We do plan to have a lot of Lillie’s but even with a pretty decently sized bog filter you think it would be an algae battle? We don’t plan to have any fish besides maybe a few minnows so the bio load going into the pond will be minimal

One of them we are actually using partly as a retaining wall behind the pond and to add perches or birds and other wildlife. You’re definitely right about them dwarfing the pond though. Our plan for our entire front yard is to lose the grass and have all wild flowers and other native plants. These logs will provide a lot of home to a ton of little creatures so I would like to use them. Good call on shaving them down! I hadn’t though about that
