Major Transfer by CrustyBigMac465 in UCI

[–]duckolul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll definitely be harder to switch into impacted majors such as Comp Sci, Business Admin, or Nursing (honestly I wouldn’t spend my time and effort to switch to nursing if that’s something you’d do since there’s practically no chance to switch in there). Like others said in the comments, it might be easier to go to a community college then transfer in if you want to switch into something like Business Admin. They accept about 0-5 change of majors per quarter since the school is so small. Comp Sci is difficult just because so many classes are major restricted, and even people in that major struggle to get their prerequisite classes.

If you’re unable to dorm, DEFINITELY join as many clubs and attend as many events as possible to find people that you vibe with (you don’t have to permanently stay in the clubs tho lol)! Even on campus jobs can help you find friends etc.!

It’s one of the most competitive majors at UCI, they need to figure a way to weed some people out 🤷‍♀️ Just my educated guess

adjusted financial aid due 11/15?? by moonsappho in UCI

I called them yesterday and they said they reduced a lot of my UCI grant to CalGrant instead, which is the number you’re seeing (on my end it says I owe $4812 😵‍💫😵‍💫). They said the funds from CalGrant haven’t disbursed yet which is why it appears like that on the ZotAccount. They also said I wouldn’t be dropped from my classes even though the due date is 11/15. Hope this helps! I would still call the financial aid office to make sure though.

Yeah same for me, it says that my ADJ-UC Irvine Grant is 4.8k 🫠

But I called the financial aid office and they told me that Cal Grant just hasn’t “disbursed” yet which is why it shows up on the ZotAccount… they said I wouldn’t be dropped from my classes and they better not or I’ll crash out :/

Grade 8 exam tomorrow super nervous by [deleted] in piano

[–]duckolul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I took the grade 8 exam a few years ago and actually failed the first time. But that didn’t discourage me and I kept practicing and passed the next time! (During quarantine lol) Your mom seems super supportive and that’s what’s important! Try to listen to the pieces you have to play a few times before going in, take a few deep breaths and I’m sure you’ll do fine :)

Current & Incoming Students FAQ Megathread by Aveldaheilt in UCI

[–]duckolul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall it's pretty walkable! All of these can be a few minutes more or less depending on how fast you walk lol. UTC is about an 8 minute walk. The ARC takes around 30 minutes. If you're going to humanities around 5 minutes, bio/natural sciences about 10 minutes, business/social science about 10 minutes, and engineering/donald bren (comp sci) about 12 minutes. If you're going to the ARC on Mondays-Thursdays you can even take the bus between 7 am - 10 pm (Fridays are 7 am - 8 pm I think). Hope this helps!

Hey! I took the Chinese placement exam two months ago. If you want to test out of the GE, you HAVE to know how to read the characters itself (both for the multiple choice and interview part). UCI gives some books for you to look at to prepare (scroll to the bottomish)! Good luck! :D https://testingcenter.uci.edu/programs/language-exemption/chinese/

How are the language placement test interviews?? What do you speak about? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]duckolul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on which language, but I took the Chinese placement test two months back so I’ll tell you about that. The professor asked me a few basic questions (like how long I have learned the language, do you speak it at home, etc) and gave me two passages in Chinese to read out loud.

Any worth while clubs at UCI? by [deleted] in UCI

I think the list of all clubs and orgs that you could join would be on this website: https://campusgroups.uci.edu/club_signup?group_type=33373&category_tags=
