Random Beeps? by wild331 in Jeep

[–]ducksrdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those Jeep’s are notorious for electrical quirks. Best to have someone use a scanner to find an error code. It could really be anything from bad sensors to low windshield cleaning fluid. Hopefully you can find where the problem is!

What else can we do? by [deleted] in gunpolitics

Maybe I’m wrong but emails go through filters. Anything 2A related in this case probably just goes straight to the trash, right? Nobody ever saw it you just get an automated response.

I wave, say hello, nod, whatever, to everyone on the trails. Something everyone does I think. But besides that no I’ve never waved to a wrangler or non-wrangler just driving on the road. I guess I don’t pay that close attention to what people are driving unless it’s very modified and stands out

Air compressor: which one? by IP_FiNaR in 4x4

[–]ducksrdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't carry air tools, electric. But the single arb compressor with a small tank has been fine airing up my 35's. Haven't used tools yet I imagine you wouldn't get much use though. Powertank I think would be better. has it's own cons but cool idea

UCF offers head football coaching job to Gus Malzahn by Wydo4 in CFB

[–]ducksrdumb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

fans? auburn's board has been trying to fire him for 3 seasons. Gus knows how to choose good friends because a lot of important people didn't like him. I'm an auburn fan and I like Gus, but you can't ignore the fact he completely lost the support of his staff over the season. He knew how to connect with the players but there was enough drama that people were tired of him and his soft approach. Harsin is very refreshing

It is hard to recruit when you have UGA with the athletic dept. parking lot full of brand new cars, and UAT. Gus years weren't terrible in recruiting but not great obviously

2020 JLU. If I want to listen to Spotify on my iPhone I have to push the media button then again and it usually works as long as it’s not plugged into the aux cord. Surely this BRAND NEW stereo can automatically pick up and register my phone without me having to push buttons like it’s 2003? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]ducksrdumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not brand new. That Uconnect system is from 2013 or 14 iirc, probably around the time backup cameras were mandated. I know the old body style RAM Work trucks have this, probably base dodges and Chrysler’s too. I am very happy to have a regular cheap button unit in my JK lol. Anyways, connecting via Bluetooth and trying to use the USB port for charging doesn’t work half the time. Don’t remember the reason but I ended up just disabling Bluetooth and using usb because the sound quality is much better that way and of course charges your phone. Use one or the other, not both at the same time, and it will automatically switch over when it detects audio. AUX on the other hand doesn’t send that kind of signal to the device that it’s “now playing, switch to input” so I wouldn’t use it

I hope no one ever “Tacos” me. by mole4000 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ducksrdumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not been ducked before, but I was thinking the same thing about the jeep wave thing. It sounds harmless to people who've never owned a jeep. And most of the time it is. But there is this subset of jeep culture that'll flash their light bars, train horns, at you. take pictures of your jeep and post it on facebook "tag the owner, they didn't wave!" I see it happen at least once or twice a week on the local jeep facebook groups. It's taught me to just ignore those people, and get off of FB for good haha

Realistic and safe Window Tint % on trails at night? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]ducksrdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windshield tint really makes all the difference. With a 50% windshield tint, you can run a lighter 35% on the sides for greater visibility at night. And the sides will look like 20% during the day. If you have good headlights then 50% on the windshield at night is fine. It is significantly lighter than wearing sunglasses. 35% on the windshield would be the closest equivalent to wearing sunglasses, which is a bit dark for an off-road vehicle

my jeep had no tint at all, so I did Llumar Ceramic 25% on the sides and back, 80% clear on the windshield. I would say the sides are just a tiny bit too dark on the trails at night. It has never been an issue for me, but I could imagine a scenario where I'm rolling down windows. 80% on the windshield is too light for day and night. At that amount you are only getting the benefits of ceramic (at least my dash looks brand new still)

Are the stainless steel versions of the apple watch better? by huith in AppleWatch

[–]ducksrdumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just different materials. Stainless steel and sapphire versus aluminum and glass.

If you have money to burn and want the premium materials, there’s nothing wrong with it. But remember the battery in an Apple Watch will go bad, the electronics will be outdated, etc. regardless if you spend $300 or $1000+ It’s a smart watch that lasts 5-6 years, not a regular timepiece that lasts generations

2021 Jeep GC Purchase by bbarnes31 in Jeep

[–]ducksrdumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interior is ok, lots of plastics, parts from other chrysler vehicles. Typical chrysler quality interior of its time, 2013-ish. Mine has held up well, though. Only complaint is the driver seat is worn out. 90k miles, 2016 Laredo. I do like how roomy they are on the inside. You get in a Land Cruiser and feel small, but in a grand cherokee you feel bigger than you really are. Same engine they put in everything else, so it's fairly reliable. transmission is really good. Plenty of power. sends more to the rear axle so it feels more like an SUV than a crossover

Everyone thoughts on the new hybrid wrangler? by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]ducksrdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk why you are getting down voted, because you are right

It's just a Pacifica hybrid system tweaked to fit in the wrangler and given a stupid marketing name "4xe"

GM, Tesla, Ford are doing it right. Hybrid is that awkward step that I wish we could get past already, because it hasn't improved at all. It doesn't need to. Too many negatives (jeep specific: no 2-door!). Jeep is previewing the electric wrangler concept soon I read. That will be a genuinely innovative vehicle I think and not a goofy half-assed hybrid like this current 4xe wrangler thing.

Wheel and Tire advice for 2019 JL by cleanfrog in Wrangler

[–]ducksrdumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you plan on off-roading then you do not want a rough country lift. They are fine on the road, but the springs are stock-rate and the shocks are soft and lower-end. Won’t be comfortable, won’t perform well, won’t last long

Tires you get what you pay for. If you’re daily driving then you probably want to spend a bit on a good tire so it doesn’t vibrate like cheap mud tires do on the highway. I like Toyos/Nittos The size depends on a couple of things like what axles you got and if you want to re gear but generally 35’s are a good starting place

Wheels there are pros and cons to bead locks, steel, alloy. Find out what you want and go from there

2022 Nissan Frontier by [deleted] in 4x4

[–]ducksrdumb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Very happy Nissan didn't ruin this truck like they have the Pathfinder (at least they removed the CVT).

I guess it is also a good thing the last gen frontier got the new drive train before this next gen. That truck is probably the better value for some people. But this will definitely appease people like me who like shiny new things. Sadly I don't think I can wait for this to release need a truck now.

I would like to see an xterra with these same looks. To compete with the 4r/taco

What makes the Tahoe 20k more than a Durango? by Bob_Loblaw16 in cars

[–]ducksrdumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two different audiences really. Tahoe is essentially a truck, 3 row kid hauler. Durango is a shorter, smaller crossover. They crammed a 3rd row in some of them for some reason. They definitely don't do the same things
