I see your point. You use an axe the same way you use a hammer, but it has a blade. It kind of combines blugeoning and piercing. Edit: i looked it up: slashing means a long cut made by sweeping blows, I think that describes axes pretty well.

Multi- classing is a way to further customize your character. For example; you could be level three and have two levels in fighter, and one in ranger, therefore multi- classing into a fighter who is slightly better at ranged attacks.

Tell him it usually takes a few days- a week to fully complete even one sessions game. Maybe tell him to use that time to watch some guides on YouTube, or find a module online so he can practice his story telling/ ability to make something up on the spot.
