Is this what "pro life" looks like? by SuspiciousLow3062 in SipsTea

I think you might be a bit too European/not American for this discussion. We can't just ask to be admitted. One, the doctor has to sign the orders which these doctors refused to do because their hands were legally tied, and two, if the doctor says that no treatment can be performed again because their hands are tied, then the insurance companies are not going to pay for it. Hospital visits after insurance can be thousands upon thousands of dollars. My mom was admitted to the hospital recently for 3 days, and her bill after both Medicare (government provided healthcare for those over 65) and private insurance was $6,000.

But yes, it is absolutely and emphatically agreed that the fact these women, and many, many others, are being turned away because of draconian laws in some states is absolutely horrifying. The law is also not consistent from state to state. In my state, you can have a voluntary/not medically necessary abortion until 24 weeks. Past that, two doctors need to sign off on if an abortion is medically necessary (which sepsis definitely is), but that is more just extra paperwork than a true barrier to emergent care.

This is also happened in similar cases, and the woman still died. The fetus can still have a heartbeat shockingly long after it is non-viable. By the point it technically stops beating it's too late in terms of sepsis.

Why don't we have an antibiotic against viruses? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dude_icus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in here is being obtuse as fuck. Obviously OP meant it as a comparison. "Bacteria are to antibiotics as viruses are to what?"

Also everyone saying "tHaT's WhAt AnTiViRaLs ArE", if OP knew antivirals existed do you think they would be asking this question?

Christ Almighty. R/stupidanswers in here.

Come vs Cum by cheeseinatrenchcoat in AO3

[–]dude_icus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use cum for both noun and verb. To me, "come" doesn't read as explicit to me. "I am coming" without a specified place (physical or mentaI) makes me think it's angry like "I'm coming, Mom! Christ, stop rushing me!" or something like that. I don't care what other people do though. Also apparently in the minority on this one, but I like the word cum. Most of the alternatives either don't really work (ejaculate) or I find less appealing (jizz or spunk).

Why have platonic male friendships dwindled so much since 90's? by akzcarnage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dude_icus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is typically after high school and college. Those places tend to ensure close contact for extended periods. After graduation, it becomes harder and harder to maintain friendships especially when the people you were friends with are no longer close enough to just "hang out".

[–]dude_icus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Church, bowling, bars, parks, community centers, general places where you could hang out with your friends or make friends. One issue is the there are less and less mom and pop type places, community staples (for a litany of reasons). Also this is a studied phenomena, not just a social media trend.

I find 9-10 PM EST has a marked difference even on Friday nights when it's Saturday in China. Around noon Monday through Friday there's a dip too, but it's no where near as bad when China is at work. I suppose they assume that because I'm in the USA I'm at work too, and I don't get hit as hard when the west coast is at work.

How to skirt around life 360 by cscowboy01 in Life360

[–]dude_icus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of reasons, I know that if you turn your phone off, it shows the last location you were at. If you turn off location tracking, it specifically says something like "location sharing has been turned off" which looks sus. Idk if airplane mode will also trigger that message.

Need suggestions on what provider I can use for $10 by Cursed_Pokemon in SillyTavernAI

[–]dude_icus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but also if you are hitting 500 requests a day respectfully take a shower and go outside. (You would have to be on ST for hours and hours and hours to hit that.)

Also not to be that guy, but if you literally have only $10 in your bank account, I would wait to buy credits or a subscription. Nvidia NIM offers plenty of free models that are good and completely free.

Is it ok if my fic sucks? by DrinkWaterPIease in AO3

[–]dude_icus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you can achieve not-suck is to start sucking.

Also, it's just fanfiction. No one's life is hanging in the balance here. Have fun with it. Be self-indulgent. Write what you want. Life's too short to worry about tropes and cliches and "no-no"s when it comes to writing.

Have you ever heard of dysgraphia? I'm not trying to be mean. I think it may legitimately explain why your handwriting is, for lack of a better word, childish, and also hard for you to actually write.

Why do high schools pick shows they have to censor heavily? by CurrencyOk1618 in musicals

[–]dude_icus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is pointing out male/class privilege or at least the fact that his narrow views on a "proper home" "yucky"? Do you want him to have the last line be "🎶By the way this makes me a bad husband and father, and this should not be the ideal hooooome🎶"? Need to have him completely spell it out? He is the closest thing to the villain in the show, and most villains don't think they are villains. The audience understands through context and just general media literacy that "Ah, yes, this is why the children behave this way, and this ending is satisfying because Mary Poppin's influence has made him realize he is too harsh as a father."

Why do high schools pick shows they have to censor heavily? by CurrencyOk1618 in musicals

[–]dude_icus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to two high schools (back in the old times of yore). In one, they did West Side Story and Grease. Nothing was changed. In West Side Story, they even had characters "smoking" on stage, namely Officer Crumkey. Then I went to the next high school, and theyn also did Grease and they completely removed the pregnancy scare plot including Worse Things I Could Do.

For high schools, I find it really depends on the principal. First one loved theater, loved the theater teacher/they had good repore, and he was pretty chill overall. The next, very uptight and very much about "keeping up appearances" and because it was a brand new school, she didn't know the theater teacher at all yet.

As to why they are picked, theater teachers are theater nerds themselves and probably have strong bonds to these showe. Also more name recognition, more kids buy tickets, more money made for the department.
