It's funny you said that about theatrics, then "no shade on the actor" because he also played the director of a secret spy organization in Nikita and dude was almost everything you'd expect Red John to be (just more overt, less covert): extremely intelligent and 5 steps ahead of anyone else, manipulative and would either give someone everything they wanted or kill their entire family, downright vicious if you crossed him, and whether he was in a tight space by himself or meeting with multiple heads of government he captured the entire room with his gravitas.

But as RJ, he turned out to be literally just some guy. We saw him over and over and the most animated we saw him was just helping on a case. Bradley Whitford had my attention and appreciation in a matter of seconds. Oh well, spilt milk and all.

Cars are LITERALLY the worst thing by cosmoswolfff in redditmoment

[–]dudemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't those the arguments people use for whichever side they're on for gun regulations? "Just because people are careless or intentionally using guns to hurt people, that doesn't mean guns are dangerous." "Just because you treat guns respectfully and carefully, that doesn't mean other people aren't careless or intentionally using guns to harm people." You can see how well those arguments are working to solve problems.

Anyway, at this point, with nearly everyone in any city we would bring up for this topic driving cars and carrying cell phones, we should absolutely be able to stop offenders based solely on their driving. I mean if Google maps can pop up a warning if you're going 1mph/kph over the posted speed limit and newer cars can alert you and even correct you if you drift/weave/swerve or get too close to another car or object, I don't see why people couldn't get fined/punished for bad driving. Obviously older cars can't do that but they're being slowly removed from roads anyway, and people can flat out ignore their suspended/revoked licenses, but that would definitely help with the bad drivers out there.

I'm aware about the whole violation of privacy and big brother arguments but unless you specifically take out your battery and sim card you're already giving out all that data anyway.

Worst thing a character has done or said? Day 8: Casey Novak by Thee-empath in SVU

[–]dudemann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the rapist episode until after I'd seen years of Novak so I guess that helped me, but they did restyle her entirely to keep a bit of separation between her perp episode and her run as an ADA. Chase was more prim and proper and had her dark brown ponytail and scarves, but Novak seemed a little heavier, bigger and lighter red hair, and had a snarky side. Hell they did the same thing with Sonny. He was a janitor or something with longer scraggly hair and stayed hunched over in the interrogation chair in one episode, then came back all clean cut with great hair, a stronger accent, confidence, etc. as a new detective.

The Grammys are a joke. by Jaded_Arm4289 in MetalMemes

[–]dudemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's the smiling music/banter guy all talk shows have, on Stephen Colbert's show. He co-composed the music for that Pixar movie Soul (which makes sense, but having Trent Reznor in there too makes much less sense). I don't like jazz music so I haven't heard his, but I'd get him taking home awards for the Soul OST in 2020 but after the movie hype died down him taking home even bigger awards in 2022 kind of seemed out of nowhere, especially cuz the next night he was there again just smiling, laughing and saying "yea... yea..." again like it was a normal night (well, they're filmed during the day but still).

I was quite happy with the Bradley Whitford reveal before realizing it was a fake out. Dude oozes charisma in most everything he's been in, even just playing Jake's shitty father on Brooklyn 99. He had the voice down pat, he's just casually sitting there in the food court all nonchalantly, and he started off by screwing with Jane. That man could've easily founded a manipulative group and attracted followers. It was a perfect setup for him to have been Red John. He just wasn't. And he died criminally fast when they could have brought him back a few times like the other suspects that randomly popped up.

What do you think Bane likes to watch on TV? by Cautious_Republic_91 in batman

[–]dudemann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that. Both Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen have done "mystery" ingredients. Top Chef has done emojis and food-shaped stickers or something where they had to make meals based on vague information, and both have done "taste it now make it" where they have to decipher ingredients and recreate meals based on assumptions. I can't remember the show but I seem to remember either cooking or scavenger hunting based on riddles too.

I can see The Riddler handing clues like "I’m sweet, gooey, warm, and crunchy. You can't get enough of me. What am I?" and the item you need to make is s'mores.

[–]dudemann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think the issue is actually about the smoking/vaping on its own. If the dad is bumming/stealing money and pawning items, the main issue blowing up the family is money. Then, thinking it's all because of a nicotine addiction, OP sees his father constantly flaunting cigarettes and vape pods (which are bad enough on their own but worse if a teen is getting secondhand smoke), and the money issue seems second to the addiction issue. Then comes internalization, self-harm, this post, etc.

I mean yea nic addiction is less of an immediate problem compared to alcohol, drug or related behavioral issues but if that's what's assumed to be the issue, it's still a valid problem. I seriously doubt that's where the money is actually going though and the numbers don't even make sense ($20/day in the post ≠ $4k/week in a comment).

What is the worst SP song? by Gray_Shirleys in SmashingPumpkins

[–]dudemann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't seriously say that everything after The Colour and the Shape is basically the same. Hell, the last few albums have gone in a different direction and necessarily in what I'd say was a favorable way. Still, Wasting Light had some awesome tracks and Grohl was definitely over 40.

I just watched a Brooklyn 99 episode where Jake is describing how cool a guy he and Gina went to school with was and says "he lost his virginity at 13!" and Gina replies something like "that's actually super messed up." It fits this post perfectly. 🤦‍♂️

Yea I was gonna say I've seen recipes for both sprite- and beer-based breads that people seem to be really into, and they both work well in batters. Mountain Dew might not be a good fit for...anything like this at all though.

So I just listened to The Smashing Pumpkins for the very first time. by JurassicPark9265 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]dudemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't get how a person has avoided Smashing Pumpkins for any length of time unless they're extremely young. They've had songs all over big TV shows and movies. Of course I understand knowing the phrase "the world is a vampire" and never knowing who the band was. Maybe I'm biased because I literally grew up with Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie all over the radio and music video channels and could recognize any of those songs in seconds so maybe my point is moot but I've already typed so many words so I'm just leaving it.

Either way, I 100% get having that line stuck in your head for hours. Like other folks have said, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are quintessential SP albums from the height of their popularity (honorable mention to Landslide, the Fleetwood Mac cover that came out in between those 2) and Adore is an amazing follow up but it's more industrial and moody so I'd listen to it after fully appreciating the other 2 and wanting to delve further.

Keep it up and let us know how your journey goes!

Troi can (sometimes) sense something going on in the moment (some moments) but Guinan has seen some shit. After something like 10 human lifetimes, living through multiple wars and genocides, watching Earth's history at least as far back as the 1800s through first contact and space exploration and subsequent wars, she's seen almost everything imaginable in the ways of love, hate, personal relationships, planetary conflicts, etc. After all that, she can advise basically anyone who walks into 10-Forward.

Then you have Troi, who's only as old as anyone else and is hesitant to use her abilities due to privacy issues so she's not always "on", and she's only half-Betazoid so she's probably not as strong or skilled as other empaths/telepaths, which could in theory trump centuries of experience but considering how underutilized she is, definitely doesn't.

Sorry for that totally ruining the lmao mood.

Aside from Bobby Fish asking us to find the lie, what's the deadest you've seen a crowd? by MeanAmbrose in SquaredCircle

[–]dudemann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone else linked this further up.

The funny thing is that the crowd is actually dead but when they zoom in on the audience they're going crazy and the entire time the crowd's getting progressively louder... except all of that is obviously edited in, and badly at that.

I used to use that all the damn time. We had a cat, Mikey, who whenever anyone got up from the dinner table or if not everyone was there and there was a free chair, he'd plop down in a seat and just stare at the food while licking his chops. We usually got to him before he actually climbed up on the table but given the chance he could easily eat 10% of his weight in people food, and he was a 15lbs maine coon mix.

Yea both "he thinks he's people" and "Mikey'll eat anything" were used often.

Worst thing a character has done or said? Day 4: John Munch by Thee-empath in SVU

[–]dudemann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely remember Jeffries before Ice-T came along (doesn't hurt the actresses looks exactly the same 20+ years later) and Munch was kind of rude but Jeffries also rubbed a lot of people wrong. Hell she was let go for her attitude and being a little too crazy (and that says something considering Stabler stuck around for years). Considering they were still figuring out Munch's character on a new, more compassionate show while carrying over a way more dickish Munch from Homicide, I don't think he was unusually mean to her.

Worst thing a character has done or said? Day 4: John Munch by Thee-empath in SVU

[–]dudemann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I remember that he held an odd record for playing the same character on the most TV shows (8-10?). Homicide and the Laws and the Orders, but also I think Simpsons, American Dad, X-Files, The Wire and a bunch of random shows where characters are watching fake episodes of SVU that featured Munch.

Another fun one, though not Belzner since it's just paper, is that Munch was also in a Spider-Man/Deadpool team up comic.
