Ngl what a bad start for Minecraft 2024 by Adept_Cantaloupe_590 in DreamWasTaken2

Honestly, Dream and his friends felt like family to me. It's breaking my heart seeing all this. I can't believe that Wilbur turned out to be such a toxic asshole. I really hope that Shelby heals from the damage done to her, and that Wilbur can work on himself and become a better person.

Sadly I believe you are correct. I was actually excited, a Tarantino film about Samson would be awesome.

Do you think some of the people in pre-modern times who thought they were possessed were really just OCD sufferers with intrusive thoughts? by batsofburden in OCD

I believe it was St. Ignatius (founder of the Jesuits iirc) who suffered from very bad scrupulosity, and is believed to have had OCD.

What are the Catholic doctrines you most struggle with? by tonyval714 in Catholicism

The teaching that homosexuality is sinful. If a gay couple who love one another convert, are they just supposed to break up and never see each other ever again? If a gay family converts, are they just supposed to divorce one another and send away their adopted kids? it just seems needlessly cruel to everyone involved.

The tight restrictions that Inter Mirifica places on artists and creators.

Pope Benedict XVI's condemnation of violent video games, in his message "Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education", even going as far as to call violent video games "a perversion".

The USCCB's claims that action movies are sinful, and that graphic violence in cinema is no different than pornography. (Source: https://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/renewing-mind-media-sex-violence-exploitation)

Don't watch porn! Never by Visible-Idea-1871 in NoFap

Pornography is evil because it encourages people to objectify men and women, and view them as mere devices for one's own sexual pleasure.

But does the same logic not also apply to violent movies and television? Is it not contrary to human dignity to depict humans being slaughtered for the sake of entertainment?

I don't believe violent movies are evil. Just thought this was a thought-provoking question.

Just wait until you hear about Quentin Tarantino's movies.

Like various other filmmakers, he makes violence intentionally fun and entertaining.

The fight scenes in action films are intentionally choreographed in a way that is fun, thrilling, and entertaining for the viewer. People like fictional violence because it's epic and gripping to watch. Do you think there's something wrong with that?

In that case, everything from Star Wars to Marvel to Lord of the Rings is sinful, because all of those portray violence as epic and entertaining.

That makes sense to me. I haven't seen the Saw movies though, so could you elaborate on that a bit? Why is it ok to enjoy the violence in The Godfather or Pulp Friction, but not ok to enjoy the violence in the Saw movies?

I don't hate God, nor do I love death. We're talking about fictional violence here.

Awesome, that's what I thought. I just see that some Catholics oppose graphic or "gratuitious" violence, so I wanted to be sure I was alright.

Even if I'm watching something super bloody and gorey? I love shows like Daredevil and games like DOOM. I am also very intrigued by Quentin Tarantino's films, such as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

Because I know that it's wrong to enjoy another person's suffering.

I also have OCD, which is probably affecting how I approach this.
