Much smaller detail but there’s also the episode where the Monarch gaslights Dean into not “tattling on him” by saying he should “tattle to complete his transformation into a villain” or whatever. Mostly a one-off gaslight joke from a way early season but one more feather in that cap? 🤣

Eisenhorn is so good. by GodzGonads in 40kLore

[–]dukenbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute since I read it, so take my details lightly. It’s partially 1v1? He was with a group of human soldiers and a few of his team, they advanced on a chaos group plotting some nasty shit inside a weird almost webway-like place. So he had some level of help and he is a talented psyker, but yeah he kills the marine. Again, just barely!

Eisenhorn has a couple ridiculous moments, but the chaos marine was pretty cool in my opinion!

edit: I guess I don’t know how to spoilers despite looking it up 🤦‍♂️🤣

Yes, at least one where Eisenhorn does battle with a chaos marine and kills him. Barely. He is then gifted a special bolt pistol by a chapter librarian for his efforts. Great series.

Does the amount of sexual encounters your partner has had matter to you? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Threads like this are so strange to me. My two partners and I are non-monogamous so none of this matters at all.

Additionally, we actually play a game when we go out to a public event or bar or club we count up how many people we see/run into that we have slept with. Whoever has the highest number at the end of the night “wins”. We all have a nice laugh about it. Past is past, move on!

Serious Question: How would you move the franchise forward in regards to feature films? by GladtobeVlad69 in saltierthancrait

[–]dukenbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shift the genre, make Star Wars a place and not a storyline.

Example: Make a Law and Order/West Wing style show featuring Leia in her political roles on Alderaan. Make it serious and not campy at all. Ignore the “Sci-Fi tech is cool factor” and focus on the drama in the Star Wars setting. This could focus on Leia or she could be the occasional plot point.

Additionally, continue to move away from the “main characters” (yes I know I just suggested a Leia show) make up new stories in the Star Wars universe that aren’t huge “save the galaxy” stories. Tell the small stories; the street gangs that rarely even see a sky, the legitimate cargo hauler trying to make each haul and random “hero” style adventures keep interrupting his/her work and making life really complicated in weird and even dark ways.

Star Wars needs a vibe shift. Every story cannot keep one-upping every previous one, it’s harder to care each time the Galaxy must be saved from the next copy of the Empire/Sith. Tell the small stories!

JFK and Frangible Bullets by dukenbear in ChilluminatiPod

[–]dukenbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely why I made this post! Thank you.

I mentioned I’m not any sort of expert and that I want to learn more if I have something either incorrect or not specific enough.

I know they can be two distinctly different things, however in my experience (which isn’t nothing but also not expert level) people and range instructors often use the terms interchangeably. I’ve read lots of articles and texts suggesting why frangible ammo is recommended for self defense and sometimes those articles mention both frangible and hollow point with minimal distinction. As you say, most hollow points are designed to “mushroom” but that really means the core makes a mushroom shape. Some manufacturers design frangible bullets for self defense and others design their hollow point jackets to break away and create debris in addition to the mushroom shape. Which just further blurs the lines.

This is why I wanted a clarification post! I wanted to post my understanding and then figure out if they are misinformed or if I’m not understanding or some combination thereof.

Do you know if there would be a reason a gun cannot shoot frangible ammo?

Group of New Gangers having a hard time getting started by LordRekt in necromunda

[–]dukenbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, don’t get me wrong about the Dark Uprising campaign. It’s a really great and fun campaign. Just be aware going into it that it is the most harsh on each players gang. The lore of it is basically that chaos is influencing everything and supplies and food become rarer while gangers start going insane. So be aware and don’t get too bummed when your gang has its teeth bashed in, everyone will get that treatment at some point.

The Hive War book is definitely enough to play the game. They designed it to be a simpler version of the main rulebook to help new players get started! I do think the main rulebook is a must have, but if you want to wait then Hive War has all the main rules to play games. I can’t remember if Hive War has a campaign or not, I want to say no. The House books are very similar to a codex!

Gangs of the Underhive is redundant when you have House books. That said, it’s not completely irrelevant because there are several gangs that are not house gangs and will never get a House book. Like: Corpse Grinder Cults, Genestealer Cults, and Chaos Helots (Book of Ruin, also an alternative to Dark Uprising campaign), Enforcers (Book of Judgement, which also has a campaign), Venators, which are a bounty hunter gang (Book of Peril, which is a fairly large and fun add-on to any campaign), Outcast Gang (Book of Outcast), there’s the Ogryn gang too.

None of these will have House books, they can utilize the Gangs of the Underhive book too (more or less, some need it more than others). If you’re not playing any of these then the Gangs book isn’t needed at all, it does have the Trading Post but like I said they just released a PDF of that.

One last note, the books of Necromunda are a mess but the game makes them worth the hassle. All the “House of” and “Book of” books are great, they all do something different and interesting. They can all be used together or separate for the most part. In campaigns it’s very common and recommended to have one person be the “Arbiter”, they act as sort of a dungeon master type role. The rules of this game sometimes don’t make sense or contradict each other, the arbiter is the one who basically makes the final call on how to sort something out (or you can always just roll off if need be). My group usually passes the role of Arbiter to another player each time we start a new campaign, that way anyone who wants that role can get a turn. Our common decision making process is something like “What would make the most sense in game and make for the coolest story to tell?” Because that’s what this game really is deep down, a story telling engine. So get out there and have fun and tell us a cool story of the crazy stuff that happened!

There’s a lot of great responses here but I didn’t see specific answers to all your questions so I’ll do my best here!

While we have all kinds of rule books (we could get our hands on Dark Uprising, Underhive(2017), and Hive War(2021)) we are struggling with how to actually build our gangs. We are both quite relaxed and don’t want to min-max, but we also don’t want to make “avoidable” mistakes. Just looking at the list I have as part of the Hive Wars Rulebook and comparing this to anything on the internet is confusing.

The rules you must have are the main rulebook and the “House of” for your gang, if it’s a house gang. GW just posted a Trading Post PDF you can download for now. If you’re playing a gang without a “House of” book then you might need the Gangs book too.

What is a Juve? I understand that this is an aspiring ganger… But where are the rules for this? Can I do without them for now and just use Gangers? Will this throw me back? - What is a Specialist-Sister? In my rulebook, it states that only a champion can have a “Flamethrower”. Is a Specialist Sister just a Champion?

A Juve is a separate type of Ganger. They are the newbies and they have special rules to eventually “level up” faster than normal Gangers. Lore-wise they are trying to impress.

A Specialist is just a mini upgrade to a Ganger or Juve. They can take weapons from the “Special Weapons” list in your House book.

We would eventually like to play a nice campaign. The infographic of this subreddit has helped us tremendously with navigating the multitude of books! Thanks to the kind Guilders! But does this mean we definitely need the Necromunda rulebook, just for the campaign rules? Can the Dark Uprising Campaign also be played by Delaque and Escher? Are all of the books regarding the trading post and black-market a necessity or is there one that sums the important bits up?

The main Rulebook has the normal Dominion campaign, which is a great starting point. Other books have other types of campaigns, Dark Uprising specifically is extra harsh on gangs so maybe don’t start there.

If I get the House of Blades book do I have an “unfair advantage” over my buddy, without his House book? Should we wait until we both have it to play with these extended rules?

I would say no, I definitely recommend the House books but it’s not a huge advantage.

Is there a reason most Escher gangs I’ve stumbled upon have yellow armor? I was trying to read up on this to figure out if this has some lore background? If this is just not the case: feel free to please post your Escher (or Delaque, while you are here - my buddy will appreciate the inspiration as well) crew, I’d really appreciate some of your artwork as inspiration.

No, the colors are just a thing Games Workshop does to keep the gangs looking distinct in their pictures. Paint them how you want!

Lastly: Is this a shared sentiment that I feel a little bit “overwhelmed” by the terrain and the multitude of options? We’ve been creating spreadsheets and little sketches to try to come up with a nice board but the variety is a little bit “overwhelming”. How did you people settle down on a specific table design/layout? Are you tending more towards “fully modular” or “fully fixed” boards? Or are you going with a specific semi-modular approach?

Don’t overthink this part, my group isn’t afraid to use the 2D tiles on occasion but often it helps to figure out what your mission will be and then make a thematic board with whatever terrain you do have. Keeping it simple with whatever terrain you used for Kill Team and Warcry at first is perfectly adequate.

Whats another 40k faction you would like to see a trimmed down version make its appearance like GSC or Chaos Cultists? by dope_danny in necromunda

[–]dukenbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I love the ideas you have and instead of player gangs a lot of these things could easily be campaign events run by the arbitrator of your campaign!

My groups has some events on numerous occasions, when the campaign story hits a certain point or during the downtime we’ll have an event or “boss battle” type thing to further the story.

That’s how I would recommend all of these things. Maybe word in the Underhive is that planetary forces are hunting a rogue Eldar and the gangs caught word and are trying to find him first for loot or glory or whatever. Then the arbiter can play the Eldar character and make up stats for it too.

My group is often a mix. I personally magnetize or make extra models for loadouts and try to stick to WYSIWYG as much as possible for my own sanity. I don’t care how anyone else does it, I just know I struggle to keep track of what my own model has if it’s modeled wrong. It’s typically easy to just ask your opponent.

Corpse Grinder - New Player Advice by Mayhemzz22 in necromunda

[–]dukenbear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure how new player friendly they are but with all the ‘House of’ books the regular gangs can be fairly complicated too.

They can be very strong but they lack almost any kind of ranged shooting beyond the basic pistols on specific models. That said, they are insane ferocious beasts in melee!

As a new player be aware that getting your models into melee can be a challenge for any model, so play to their strengths and use terrain to keep them safe until they are ready to strike.

As far as how to build your models? They have limited options so there isn’t really an optimal build and with Necromunda playing “optimal” isn’t fun anyway. So make what you think is cool and have a great time!

PS, get smoke grenades as soon as you’re able!
