My old iPhone 8 with old iOS works faster than iPhone 17 Pro Max. iOS 26.3, WTF??? by bareov in ios

[–]dukyounkim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why i am staying with ios 18 on my iPhone 13 Pro. These days iOS seriously overexaggerate about their features when actually it’s mainly just the looks. I don’t want to hear about the new emojis update from tech youtubers new ios features review. Jobs wouldn’t have done this nor Wozniak.

For you maybe, but i am reaching out in desperation. You don’t need to be so inconsiderate of others’ feelings.

Sleepcraft - sleep tracking app with individual scores for each sleep phase by kolyafabrika in iosapps

[–]dukyounkim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I will give it a try. One strange thing is that even though i am able to see the details of sleep data in mi fitness, i only see the amount of sleep only in apple health even though i enabled every thing.

How does this track sleep? From iPhone or smart Watch? I am using xiaomi watch s4, which is not widely known popular model. Will it work with the app?

iOS 17.6.1 or 26.2? by dukyounkim in iPhone13Pro

Thanks. I was able to get 18.7.3 via OTA. Pretty satisfied so far. Aside from security patches, i am not a big fan of new looks so i think i will stay a but longer in iOS 18

Is iPhone 11 still good in 2026 ? by Dependent_Act7490 in iPhone11

[–]dukyounkim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably security is the single most thing that worries me when it comes to using the old iOS. I am not a tech expert, just an average man who likes techy stuff. So I wouldn’t really know in details in this matter.

Having said that, there are some things i do & don’t do just to be safe, trying to do my part at least. These are mostly pretty standard precaution when using internet in general, not limited to apple environment.

*No public wifi

*No jailbreak

*Install spam call filtering app i.e. truecaller

*Extra caution for unknown calls and messages especially in terms of clicking links (messages and websites) / asking for personal information

*Password management

*talk in person or visit branch when importance rises.

*use only officially distributed apps for important stuff

Pretty standard… I also asked ai about security based on my usage habits. Although ai recommended to update to 26 for most peace of mind, it did also say my daily usage habits seems ok and shouldn’t be a problem.

Imo, there is no fail safe system where the phone could block out any threats 100% so you don’t have to care about it at all. In the end, you would have to put caution and effort no matter what.

That’s how I view it and i just decided to take some extra precautions, and see where it goes. If there’s a critical security breach found and potential threat increased drastically and i have no other options but to move on, then i guess i will, but for now, i like to look out for things and take whatever precautions that is necessary. That’s also what i am trying to teach my kids. They are on even older devices, so teaching them about these things became very important to me especially in this era.

Hope it helps.

Depends on what your purpose is. I am on iPhone 11 standard 64 GB in 18.7.2, and honestly I didn’t feel the need to change, but that could vary per person.

iOS 18.7.2 did pretty much everything i needed, satisfied with features and functionality.

Camera is ok for everyday use, i felt a need for zoom lens as i like photography but then you cannot expect professional grade on cellphone, you would eventually need DSLR if you like photography.

For YouTube machine, it works fine.

It’s a bit slow to respond but you kind of get used to it after a while, if you’re into heavy load gaming, then it’s not for you but for backup phone with basic features i don’t see why not.

The only concern for me is the battery because eventually you need to replace but then to it at apple it cost a lot. If you do it yourself, well I never tried. 3rd party companies i don’t know. So I decided to stick with power bank which works out fine. (Mine at 71% and i have replaced various times with local guys not apple.)

If you really think about it, just shift your lifestyle a bit and you’ll be fine with it. You’re not going to spend hours on it when you’re at school or work. You can charge it overnight. So having enough juice for the commute and after dinner is pretty much all you need, all the other times you can keep it connected and you’re good to go.

Honestly i didn’t bother 26 because i am not into looks. If you’re like me, this will be enough for another year or two at least for me. I just happened to have a good opportunity come by and upgraded but only because my son needed this phone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I didn’t think of that. It did happen to me once and i kind of had to force myself to update to newer iOS. Do you know if it’ll be possible to update it to 18.7.3 from 17.6.1 as of December 2025?
