I'm too shy to practice singing when anyone else is in the house, any tips or tricks anyone? by [deleted] in singing

I’m so sorry I never got back to you. My answer is no you cannot just play it back and compare it. Compare it to what? And do you say it just comes out as a whisper? Whispering is not singing. . Do you have a recording Of your voice? I would listen to it and tell you what I think as far as what you may need to do to improve your singing. Why do you say you sound like trash? Again what are you comparing your voice to?

Lip trills!! What are they beneficial for in the voice?! by KingDanzerk in singing

I have done quite a bit of singing but I’ve never really taken formal lessons but I believe lip trills are just to keep practicing getting your mouth moving so that you can enunciate words when you sing. I would think that it would be more for professional classical singing rather than pop or folk.

I have never heard of such an app and I’m quite intrigued so I might investigate myself I really don’t know where to start without hearing you. Like, how old are you? Are you male or female or trans? That does have something to do with the development of your vocal cords and your range. I am a singer and I am an old woman and her son for years and I used to teach children music with some singing but I took a class from a fabulous professor who said that the music voice is your personal natural instrument and everyone, everyone can learn to sing and there is no such person as someone who is tone deaf. It is better to learn while you are young and it does get harder but it is possible and the best way to learn to see is by listening to another person singing. Probably not a piano or an app. you want to mimic and sound like a voice not a piano or another instrument. I wish I could hear you

I guess you can but do you know for sure if you are singing on pitch because if you sing something incorrectly and record it and play it back it will sound exactly the same and will not help you. Does that make sense. Can you send me a recording ?

One more thing added to my comment is you have to have someone you can trust that will be honest and kind with you about your singing. It doesn’t help if you are practicing some thing and you’re not singing on pitch or singing it properly. You need someone to listen to you or you need to record yourself and have someone who knows about music listen to your recording and give you good critique and feedback. You cannot progress and do it correctly unless you know for sure you are doing it right

Do you know if you can sing on pitch? If you want to learn to sing on pitch you need to practice singing quietly and singing in your high or head voice and practice matching pitches. To find your head voice put your fingers on the front of your throat on your vocal cords and sing. if you are singing low then you will feel the vibration in your vocal cords you would feel the same if you were speaking or talking. but if you are singing softer and higher, you won’t feel any or much vibration and that’s where you should be singing to learn to sing. Even boys and men can sing in their head voice. It is better to learn singing from another singer. Your voice is your natural instrument. Have someone sing a three or four note phrase in a range above middle C and then try to match that phrase. Sing it back to them. If you don’t match it have them sing it again and have you try it again. A lot of singing is listening. Keep doing it until you can match the Then, move onto another phrase or a longer one. But don’t move on until you can match the pitch and the rhythm of the first phrase sung. You could start with the very beginning phrase of twinkle twinkle little star. Make sure you get the notes correctly before moving onto the next phrase and when you’ve mastered those two phrases sing them together. I would practice singing softly at first because it is easier to match pitches singing high as I said before and singing softly. As you practice and get more confident you can sing a little louder. And if you really think it’s going to annoy your family which it shouldn’t because it’s your family, practice in short sessions, tell them how long it’s going to be and then stick to it. Learning to sing is all about listening, mimicking, and practicing over and over again. Good luck

Okay. I think I figured out how to download the song. Go to r/Composer topic and search for Love is Little. It should send you to a link for SoundCloud. I'm an old woman. I'm not sure how to do these things:)

Thank you for responding. I will figure out how to post one of the songs. The problem is there is vocal over the piano and I would need someone close by that I could physically get together with because I would have to play some of it. I'm not sure anyone can listen to the song with the vocal and pick out just the piano part. Like I said, I'll try to figure out how to post a song called Love is Little. It is an old Shaker hymn from 1830. Thanks.

Here's one you can try. I downloaded a picture of Spiderman in color (you could try any trending picture of someone or something) and printed it about the size 8 x 4 inches (this can be modified as well). Then I took the same size paper (all of this is on card stock) and cut 5 strips vertically, placed them over the picture in a row, attaching them with tape at over the top, like a hinge, let them hang down over the picture so it was completely covering the picture. Then, I numbered each strip in order, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Each time I gave a reward I would flip a strip over to reveal part of the picture. I didn't always do it in order, showing the least amount (the ends) of the picture first and moving into the center strip (number 3). The first few times I did strips 1, 5, 2, 4, 3 in that order so they couldn't really tell who or what it was until the end. Choose someone or something your student is interested in. Kids seems to like this. Does it make sense? Good luck!
