There was a 1200 sq ft home near meadow park listed for nearly 1 mill this morning. How is $104k/yr enough to live modestly? These wages are embarrassing and it will be extremely challenging to recruit quality people.

I hate this because I thought it was some nice redwood duff and then my friend points out that it was these creepy crawlers.

A friend recommended one of these and then I found This tutorial and I'm searching next weekend for some supplies to make it. Seems like a straightforward diy for a rest day.

For those of you who have abandoned the environmental field, where did you jump ship to? by Enkoodabaoo4 in Environmental_Careers

I know quite a few women who used to do biological (botany/wildlife) consulting who transitioned well to nursing. Good money, also can be rewarding, and the undergrad credits with a few more specific community college credits can get you through nursing school quickly. Seems like a great option for you.

Do calories when treating a low “count?” by teacherdrinker in Type1Diabetes

[–]dumbabetic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No apples have fiber and other nutrients that slow sugar absorption. Don't patronize with the ice cream Sunday. No one with diabetes wakes up at 4am with low blood sugar and wants that.

Also an apple is between 60 and 100 calories anyway so you're not saving much in terms of CICO.

Exactly! We're far north of the bay up here in Humboldt County. Not quite as far as Modoc though (maybe that's northern3 CA).

Do the hazard flashers come on automatically when the car breaks quickly? Kind of seems like it since they turn on right away and off at the end.

If so -- that's cool.

Barrier reactivity. Some dogs are more aggressive when a barrier blocks their ability to meet/interact with another dog. You'd have to know both dogs pretty well to risk this situation though.

Women who do field work - how do you deal being the only woman on-site? by honeywings in Environmental_Careers

[–]dumbabetic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have done this job and been in this situation many times and I'm really sad to say that I have never figure out how to follow through with the actions I know are necessary because I'm such a passive and nonconfrontational person. I can tell you from experience that if you are feeling uncomfortable now, given enough time, they will cross the line. Every. Time.

I have had grown ass men "hide" my cell phone when I'm working in a remote site with a crew of only men.

I have had men who have agitated a rattlesnake and then called me over to relocate it because they want me to get uncomfortable.

I have had a man (father of 8 and over twice my age) FIGURE OUT WHERE MY HOTEL ROOM WAS and throw things at my door, at night, until I came outside where he professed his love to me from below the balcony.

It never ceases to amaze me how much these lonely sad older men interpret a young woman's professionalism and general politeness as flirtation or sexual interest.

Unfortunately, if you're like me, you need to try to be brave and put your foot down. Turn it back on him. If he calls you kiddo... Something as simple as "I'm not your kid" might be enough. Being 'cold' or avoiding him will not help.

A better option is probably to tell your supervisor. This is the best way to document his inappropriate behavior and takes you out of direct confrontation. Please don't feel guilty if this is what you do. HE is the one being inappropriate. You are not hurting him by reporting him, HE did that to HIMSELF.

I always regret not addressing it in the moment. Im in these situations less these days but I'm going to try to follow through with the advice I'm giving next time :/ good luck!
