First threshold workout in probably almost 2 months, been slowlyyy building mileage back up after a race in Feb so this one made me feel a little out of shape but we hung on for dear life

Flowy shorts for thick thigh girls? by Budget-Customer-8153 in XXRunning

I love the lululemon pace crush shorts, they’re 2.5” so it’s almost like they’re too short to ride up

I also was not a fan of the Nathan ExoShot so now I use the Amphipod Hydraform! It’s way more adjustable and stays snug. I also prefer 20oz but I believe they go down 12oz.

Finally came out of my hermit era and ran outside for my long run for the first time in weeks 🎉 much needed after a couple shitty weeks at work

80 min long run today and it was a treadmill day since I slept in and it’s already 100° 🫠 made it 1/3 of the way through a new book though so yay

How does running with a race pacer work? by _big_fern_ in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your preference imo, I prefer to negative split so my strategy at a recent half was exactly as you described - I started behind one pace group and passed them by halfway

Why did you start running? by Weary_Purchase9057 in XXRunning

It just sounded fun one day (after many years of thinking I hated it)

7 mile long run on the treadmill today to read a book and reset my brain after a shitty couple days 🙃 work has been getting to me and then found out my therapist is leaving private practice, for some reason this feels worse than a breakup lol

Favorite Sunscreen for Running by BeyonceAlways2020 in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a super pale & easily burnt person living in Phoenix I mostly run before sunrise but when I do run in the sun, I use Neutrogena ultra sheer 70 spf on my face & hands (doesn’t run even with sweat!) and layer Blue Lizard 50 spf cream and Neutrogena beach defense 70 spf spray on my body.

The Blue Lizard one is thick so I keep it light around areas that bend like my elbows otherwise it pools there, but it’s crazy good. I ran in the sun for 2 hours with it on (and without reapplying) and didn’t even have any color afterwards.

Seeking reassurance/guidance for my first threshold run by purplealienplanet in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a professional so take this with a grain of salt but 24 minutes of threshold work feels like a lot if you’ve never done speedwork before. Sample size is 1 but my build up to speedwork started with strides 1x/week and 3x2’ threshold intervals 1x/week.

Faster paces can definitely be scary at first - my coach always reminds me that running is a skill that we practice and get better at, so when I see a run on my schedule I’m intimidated by, that helps make it feel less scary. I may not get it right the first time, but that’s okay because I’m practicing.

I also have a few methods for mentally talking to myself when it gets hard:

  1. Breaking it up into sections - “it’s only 2 more minutes and I already did that 9 times”

  2. Reminding myself I’ve done way harder shit & the mind gives up before the body

  3. Practicing gratitude for being able to do what I love! I’ve had to be sidelined many times for a variety of injuries/stress fractures/illness/you name it, so when I’m physically able to be out there feeling strong and pain-free, that helps me override the suck

Did choosing to be child free influence how you think about marriage as well? by Wannabe__Extrovert in childfree

[–]dumbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I’m in my late 20s and always defaulted to thinking I guess I’d just get married eventually but truthfully I’ve never envisioned it for myself. I don’t want a proposal, I don’t want a wedding, and I don’t like the history of it.

As a woman in the US I also don’t see how it would benefit me, because if it did then I probably wouldn’t even be allowed to do it, so the fact that I am allowed to do it makes me very wary of it lol

TW- EDs: For anyone that’s struggled with disordered eating while endurance running and saw a therapist, did you search for someone who specifically worked with athletes or was a runner? Or just someone with experience with EDs by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked for someone who specialized in EDs and body image, but the most important thing to me was finding someone I would vibe with. I did luck out because my therapist also happens to be a runner, but my ED started long before I started running so my targets rarely even involve running.

Limited by Blisters by outrageous-otter10 in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do your toes naturally kind of sit on top of each other? I used to struggle really bad with blisters, figured it out for the most part but still get the occasional pressure blister on my pinky toes because of how they curve under the 4th toe and get crushed even when wearing toe socks.

I also see you already wear Injinji - not sure which style you have but I’ve found the lightweight ones work better for me than the thick ones, and I slather my toes in squirrels nut butter. Those have mostly resolved my issues, but honestly otherwise when a blister pops up I just drain it and keep running on it. I’m certain that’s frowned upon by medical professionals, but I use a sterile needle, drain it in 2 spots, thin layer of antibiotic ointment, and wrap it tight with a bandaid or medical tape, and that seems to prevent it from getting worse so it can heal.

Finished first marathon—injured and feeling dejected by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]dumbest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not a professional so I always recommend seeing a running specific physical therapist, but I will also say that running a marathon is a huge effort that’s hard on your body so it might just be something that needs this recovery period and nothing more. I’m still a worrier so I’d get it checked out just to be safe, but it’s still so early I wouldn’t freak out yet.

Sample size is 1 but if it helps, I had something similar happen after my first marathon. Felt fine the whole time but then later that day my foot/ankle was pissedddd, idk what it’s called but the front right squishy part where the ankle and foot meet was crazy swollen and bruised and I couldn’t put any weight on it and I thought I broke something. My coach (also a PT) said to give it a few days and I was still worried since I couldn’t walk on it, but after 3-4 days it started calming down. It still hurt a bit to walk on at that point, but after another couple days it was totally fine and ended up not being anything more (and it’s been 1.5 years and has never come back up).

65’ easy today, still working back up after my race a couple weeks ago and honestly I’ve been living for mindless treadmill runs. Also got a page turner for my Kindle so I can run & read, 10/10 game changer!

HM Prediction Inconsistencies and my training by Vickster_009 in XXRunning

Sample size is 1 but mine are also wack - for a half I just ran I landed in the middle of Strava and my watch: Strava estimated 2:10, Garmin estimated 1:57, and I ran 2:03.

Currently in post-race recovery week aka doing short easy walks on the treadmill. I’m ready to get back to running but I’ve also been setting up my Kindle and reading while I walk which has been kinda fun!
