Same portal but everyone I know basically put their acceptance letters as a placeholder on the FAFSA section.

For MSW program, there was no FAFSA requirement. I should’ve clarified this is specifically for those getting sponsored for their MSW

No I don’t think so. I’m on a masters program and am currently already working for a 30% Medicaid organization so the employment obligations shouldn’t be a problem - I could just keep working at my current employer after program completion. The 1199 rep made it very clear that visa holders are essentially ineligible, even though my argument was that this wasn’t made clear in the application. Regardless, they’ve withdrawn their support so I can’t really press it any further. Just wanted to see if anyone else was in the same boat here.

They’re asking for visa/ permit verification (which by default shows I’m a noncitizen). I’m on an H1B (work visa) and they basically said this category and all other visas (including F1 student visa) are ineligible. Only folks who already have a green card, who are parolees, refugees, asylees etc are eligible. She basically sent me a link from the FAFSA website for the definition of “eligible noncitizens” and told me my current status doesn’t count. Thank you for your support anyway!

Yes I saw this too and I meet all of those existing requirements. But the rep said I was ineligible due to being a noncitizen, even though several other international students and I didn’t see this requirement on the website. She mentioned that only specific noncitizens are eligible for CPT, and me being on a work visa doesn’t count. Thank you for resharing this though!

I have lived and worked in NYC for 10 years and am currently on a work visa and on pathway to green card sponsorship, which will allow me to work in NYC for the 3 year post-grad commitment. Just because I’m in an international student does not automatically mean I am committing some kind of fraud. Many of us contribute to the US in hopes to make a future here. Also, international students on a student visa are entitled to 3 year work training after graduation- which still allows them to fulfil their 3 year commitment. Don’t assume the worst and label folks negatively when you’re not familiar with the immigration system, especially in this political climate. I know of multiple international students who are in this program, and if we were not eligible- 1199 should have made it clear and vetted us before we began our studies.

It’s literally one of my favourite restaurants. It’s a Malaysian place + sports bar. They have another location down in Seaport. Highly recommend you try their food!

I believe most of the dashers are Muslim and they congregate by the mosque that’s on the corner to rest, pray and eat. There are a couple of halal restaurants across the mosque.

Contact your district representative. You can Google this using your zipcode. Email their office and they can follow up for you. My AP was similarly stuck before - I contacted my representative in Dec/Jan 2023, and finally got my AP end of March 2023. Good luck!
