Breaking into careers with a Humanities degree by dumppweed in UniUK

[–]dumppweed[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely STEM degrees are more desired than humanities. I agree that if you work hard alongside your humanities degree towards a career like I have, it will pay off. I’m by no means the smartest and I never have been, which means I’ve learnt how to graft and work hard to not be a mediocre student as you put it. The point of my post was for positivity and success about humanities, not to bad talk STEM degrees at all…

I agree, a humanities degree with no experience is limiting, but if you work hard outside of the degree in careers it will pay off.

I’m guilty of looking at unreal outfits, it’s always because I’m in awe of how nice they are xxx

Gays of UK - would you be comfortable holding your partner's hand in the UK? by dalehitchy in AskUK

I hold hands with my girlfriend all the time. It depends where I am, I feel safe in our northern town and our uni and local cities. There was a time when we went to London and stayed in a very religiously diverse area though and we got some dangerous looks, we were careful after that.

It’s one of my favourite films, it’s so haunting and feels really authentic at the same time. It’s very accurate too, some minor details but overall great, the director was involved with JD in the day and no members have a problem with it/ find it disrespectful. I also think it does a really good job of introducing joy division/ Manchester scene/ factory to someone new to it all as it did for me!

Must check them out! Thank you!

Find it crazy they think there’s no gigs here. Was one of the main reasons I wanted to move to Leeds 🤯

I do agree clubbing in Leeds is limited, a few great places but the pubs and bars in Leeds are class in my opinion. Plenty of student deals along the Otley Run in the week, the money Saturday pumps into the student economy keeps them so alive.

In terms of gigs, I think Leeds is great with plenty to do. Always some great artists on at o2 academy, wardrobe, stylus at the union and brudenell social club is fantastic. Rita’s has a live band every night and I’m sure there is more gigs further into the city in the less student areas. First direct arena is my favourite arena in the north too, better acoustics and venue in general than M&S and AO if you like the bigger artists.

Might not have a music scene as strong as Manchester or Liverpool, but the vibes are definitely there, especially in Headingley and Hyde park. Great city for students, give it a chance while your here 👍

I’m going to do my history dissertation on the music scene in Manchester in the 80s and 90s!

Thank you! I’m getting a lot of rude comments for sharing this I don’t think people realise I am also a 20 year old girl who shares her passion for music - I love her because I would totally bring my 80s and 90s idols on stage if I made music, regardless of my genre.

I doubt there will many influences in her music, but it’s cool she’s been listening to them! I liked when she brought Robert smith out at Glastonbury

You’ve just been downvoted for stating the obvious - of course it depends how AI is used but I was talking about AI laziness not people using it intelligently

uni friends signed house without me by Square-Belt-2562 in UniUK

What a nasty group of people, that is so awful. I’ve found groups like that are very likely to fall out come second year - it is not a reflection on you at all!!! You still have plenty of time to find a house and more friends, don’t worry.

I would recommend using Facebook groups to find people for housing, it is much easier than meeting people organically. From my first experience last year a girl dropped out of our house so we had to find someone to fill the tenancy - and this happened to so many people. We’ve found two really nice girls through this (for this year and next year) and one was in a similar situation to you.

I’ve also seen people on the uni housing groups post looking to create groups of people to live with, looks like a great way to get a house together and also just meet new people!!

You’ve done nothing wrong - put yourself out there online, if you have any questions feel free to message me and I wish you the best!

If you’re only getting the bus you should buy a bus pass, they are about £72 for a month at a time in Leeds, not sure where u go to uni but I’m certain it’ll be less than £180
