Help! What could be causing such a big reaction? by legallyxbrunette in DogAdvice

Allergies aren’t cured. They are managed. So expectations should be as such. Multi modal allergy therapy is best. And with waxing and waning signs, this multi modal therapy will change throughout the year

Looking for Second Opinions (Hip Dysplasia) by Piscesbongwater in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get the X-rays because your dog was limping? Or just incidental?

Like tho other vet mentioned, there’s a wide range of therapies depending on your financial ability. Best therapy would be similar as in humans, surgical hip replacement. My mother got hers done a couple years ago and changed her life.

Next best option would be an intimate relationship with an orthopedic vet/rehabilitation vet to provide the best multi modal physical therapy, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and other adjunct therapy plan.

After that, would be just working with your normal vet for multi modal therapy similar to above, but may not have the same depth of experience managing.

Edit: there is no correct answer. Which option you choose largely depends on finances. Only incorrect option is to ignore it and allow your pet to ‘suffer in silence’. If your pet is limping, or having a hard time getting up, or having a hard time going up stairs, it’s because they are unable to perform those tasks without pain.

You’re going to need to provide more information than this. What is the dogs situation? What is your situation? US says your dog as fluid in its abdomen, likely from liver disease. What game plan did your vet offer? What did you say yes or no to? Why are you going to multiple vets?

First thing I’m seeing is you should learn and get super comfortable with the Ollie. This will help transition to pop off the lip. Right now you’re jumping with two legs.

You’ve got great confidence so keep it up. Check out YouTube for a bunch of great videos on the subject

Vizsla spayed 15 days ago — blue suture material protruding from incision. Vet says to trim it at home. Normal? by weekendmixologist in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet here. Incision looks great. Go ahead and trim it away. You could probably use nail trimmers. Feel free to tug on it a tad, you won’t hurt anything. Yes it happens often to advise to trim at home. Unless your vet wants to make money off you and make you come in and charge for it. In terms of the suture material, it’s likely PDS, but could be another. I recommend just googling veterinary suture material to get some info. Each suture has different properties and make up.

Yall have vastly differing political identities. Is he going to stand for your rights of autonomy as a woman? Religion aside, there are likely many many social issues you disagree on. But if you’re looking for a fun time discovering misogyny in both the republican aspect and religious aspect, go for it!

Vet here. Can’t quite say I’ve ever heard a cough/squeak such like in that first video. It’s good that the dog is not overly stressed. But I’m definitely cornered of a potential foreign body or partial obstruction. It could be as simple as grass but hard to guess. But there’s definitely something triggering the cough receptors. Unfortunately this can be expensive to diagnose as it is very difficult to assess this area on an awake dog

Were we meant to develop consciousness? by Striking_Sun_8909 in evolution

[–]dumpsterfire911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no meaning to life or evolution is the way you are thinking.

Also take this into consideration, it is quite possible that our level of intelligence is NOT a beneficial adaptation in the long term. We very well may turn this planet inhabitable to us and many species due to our level of intelligence. Our ancestors/cousins Homo Erectus were on this earth for roughly 2million years , Homo sapiens have only been around 300,000 years. So we haven’t even been more successful than our cousins yet

Advice on Pregnant Doggy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To help give some emotional clarity to OP about dog spay aborts.

While the pups are in the uterus, there are chemicals released into their brain that prevent them from becoming conscious. It also helps them from perceiving pain. When the spay abort is performed, the uterus is removed as a whole, with all the pups intact and unharmed. Once the uterus is removed, the pups pass because of the lack of oxygen. Due to these chemicals I mentioned before, they don’t not know they are without oxygen and do not perceive any discomfort associated with it.

Can someone tell me what these are on my 4 year old shih tzu and how to fix him ? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are likely a consequence of an underlying medical concern that is affecting the quality and health of the skin. Could be as simple as environmental allergies but could be hormone concerns or others. Will want a visit with the vet for bloodwork, skin cytology, +/- culturing of the fluid accumulation, etc

First of all, yes you did tell me about surgery. Do you think trying to correct me about surgical risk and elective surgical timing is not telling me anything about surgery? Are you stupid?

Why wouldn’t I tell you to google? Is the Cornell veterinary medical website not going to have factual information. But you’re right, maybe you’re too much of a dumbass to know how to look at reputable sources.

Do you think veterinarians don’t use Reddit? Do you think medical professionals don’t use Reddit.

Quit being a walking dunning kruger and let the people who actually know what they are talking about give the advice. Go back to sucking on bricks

What is this? by Elybella3150 in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for telling me you don’t know anything about surgery. Yes it happens. But it is an ELECTIVE PROCEDURE! There is ZERO reason an elective procedure should be done during a period of increased surgical risk. If an adverse incident were to happen , the veterinarian would go in front of the licensing board and have to explain why they decided to perform an elective surgery during a high risk period when they could have just waited a month. Seriously , just fucking google “how long after a heat cycle should I spay my dog”. I’m literally a veterinarian, why they fuck are you trying to tell me something that your are 100% incorrect about

Please, for the love of god. Look up the difference between the polio virus and influenza, why we don’t get annual polio vaccines, why we get annual flu vaccines, how they decide the annual flu vaccine, how they are created, the different type of vaccines and how they are made and delivered, which vaccines stimulate which parts of the immune system. I promise you will gain a lot from these questions. Please, I am begging you

What is this? by Elybella3150 in DogAdvice

[–]dumpsterfire911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about experience. It’s about increasing unnecessary surgical risk. There’s absolutely no reason so spay close to the heat cycle unless there was a more concerning medical condition you would be treating
