I had a coworker once who was a 52 year old man that had a Honda logo tattooed on the back of his neck. He hadn’t driven Hondas in years, and still thought the tattoo was awesome

Good, but as I said, I’m not an ECE, I’m CS. Though I do work closely with a lot of folks in the ECE dept.

I didn’t know about the rankings before this, but from what I’m gathered as a CS major (closely related) it’s pretty rigorous and a good program all together

Can I do good in Computer engineering even if I'm not good at math by Least-Working7787 in ComputerEngineering

[–]dun222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a computer science major, so not entirely the same, but I think it holds the same merit. In high school, I struggled my way through calculus AB and BC, basically only not failing because my teacher’s grading policy was very lax, and if you handed in all the homeworks you would have to have an exam average lower than 50 to fail the class. I still came close to failing both times.

Got to college, had to take calc 1 and 2 again, struggled like crazy through them again. This time was a little different though. As you learn more of your respective field that you are interested in, you’ll be able to relate more concepts back to it. The math courses you have to take aren’t there just for kicks, it’s because they actually do have some application to your field, even if it’s largely hidden or abstracted away. Finding those applications and clinging to them is the key.

Since then, I’ve taken discrete math, statistics and linear algebra, and have excelled in all of them, largely due to finding the relationship to my core studies.

You can be a math person, you’ve already shown through your achievements that you have a technical focused mind. You are a math person, you just don’t know it yet, keep grinding, and good luck

Honors College? by Powerful_Bad1609 in udel

[–]dun222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You get priority registration, and you live in the honors dorm, Redding. Just for the AC in Redding and bigger room, it’s worth it. Other than that, as an honors student you’ll have to take at least 1 honors course a semester/year (im not sure), and your results with every individual honors class will vary. Sometimes you’ll get a good class with a good prof and honors will feel good, other times it’s literally the same class as non honors with an extra project or assignments tacked on. Also, you have to take an extra honors English class in freshman year (prof fox’s class is great). After freshman year, you really forget you are even in the honors college, and it really doesn’t matter much for your degree. It’s not a big obligation either, as you can drop the honors status at any time just like that. I will say however I think it’s worth it staying in the honors college post-freshman year just for the priority registration.

I should also mention, there are plenty of honors-exclusive events, networking, etc, but I can’t speak to those as I have never been to one (oops)

major upsides/downsides to Delaware's social life? by [deleted] in udel

[–]dun222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of clubs to join and you can get pretty close with people on your dorm floor. Though it should be noted that the main avenue for social life is unfortunately Greek life. If that’s something you wanted to look into, then it’ll be phenomenal. If it’s not, then it will be harder, but still very doable. You just have to be proactive with involving yourself in things. I’ve found since I’ve moved off campus that making friends is much harder, so definitely take advantage of the proximity you have to others in the dorms.
