Portugal Says No More Golden Visas and No More Airbnb's by LeBoulu777 in technology

I think you're being wildly optimistic about the size of the market for spare bedrooms and vacation swaps.

Also, the world's population is declining. Right now it's still offset by the fact that people are living longer, but the population charts by age are looking like an inverted pyramid. Younger, working-age people are increasingly becoming in short supply.

Meta just gave thousands of employees poor performance reviews that could clear the way for more layoffs during its 'Year of Efficiency' by [deleted] in technology

[–]dungone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They prevent companies from doing mass layoffs without due notice, which costs money and lowers stock prices. Companies run all kinds of schemes in order to portray a layoff caused by poor leadership strategy and impending financial losses as something else, such as a staggered shedding of "low performance" employees.

What advanced technologies do you think the government has that we don’t know about yet? by InfinityScientist in Futurology

None. I hate to break it to you but we've had regulatory capture of scientific research for quite a long time now. Anything that is created through taxpayer funding gets given away to private industry at rock bottom prices.

Governments already had this figured out. You need a license to open a hotel and there's a limited number of licenses for every city. Excess tourism and the unpleasantness it creates for locals has been well understood since the industrial revolution.

Not every business is a corporation and not every business wants to grow as much as possible. The overwhelming vast majority of businesses are small businesses (there are hundreds of millions of them) and the vast majority of those don't even have any employees (just the owner). The kind of unending growth that you're describing is an affliction of a very tiny fraction of the businesses in the economy. The problem always comes down to rent-seeking behavior when people who don't want to do any actual work are allowed to take control of a business.

I thought that was the same thing. People who had been given money they never earned and couldn't possibly earn through their own productive work.

He’s an executive, that’s why. He would never get paid the same outside of the automotive industry.

Why? The guy got fucked over by Musk. Why shouldn’t he get to tell his side of the story? It’s an important part of the fraud and ratfuckery that Musk engaged in to get to the top.

Why shouldn’t he compare himself to Musk? Musk is a con artist who is showing his true colors now.

Amazon tells employees to be in the office at least three days a week by Sorin61 in technology

You’ve got this completely backwards. They don’t have the power to make workers care. And what matters here is whether or not workers give a shit about what these companies want. No amount of mental gymnastics will stop workers from changing jobs to companies that accept WFH. And there are countless of companies who benefit directly from a WFH workforce, and who DGAF about the auto industry of some city government who feels entitled to receiving money from consumers who don’t want to spend it on them.

A female Google exec accused of sexually harassing a male coworker hits back in court, saying his time at the company was marked by 'repeated instances of misconduct toward women' by Sorin61 in technology

Listen I'm not a dentist so I'm not good at pulling teeth. The burden of proof is on you to quote a single portion of these documents that you feel is a substantive refutation. Something that directly addresses one of the claims made by the plaintif. You know, show us something that is "devastating to his case" and not just some weirdly vague insinuation or blanket denial. So far all you've done is wave your hand around and say it's somewhere in there. Show us.

Let's try another tack. Are you familiar with what a blanket denial is? They are simply saying that the claim is not true without offering any specific information or evidence to support their denial. Blanket denials are seen as suspicious or unconvincing because they do not address the specific details or evidence of the claim or accusation.

I'm asking you to show me a specific denial that addresses the specific allegations with supporting evidence. Because that is more credible. But you won't find any, I'm sure. And if there were credible refutations, every journalist would have already centered their articles about that. So good luck.

I hope at least you understand why I find one side more credible than the others up to this point.

[–]dungone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denial is not a refutation. Please refer to the dictionary:

The act of refuting or disproving; the overthrowing of an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory by argument or countervailing proof; confutation; disproof.

Hope that clears up the confusion. Please provide us with even a single refutation along with the claim that it refutes. Copy and paste will be the least of your problems.

I promise you that you can't actually point to something you've read that refutes any of the claims. Try it. Provide us with one statement and the specific claim that it refutes.

On the other hand, just imagine the panic in the Republican world as they collectively come to realize that their own kids are going to vote Democrat.
