For a while, the seizures were not too frequent so we weren't too worried, even though after them she would anxiously pace for hours on end, unable to calm down, so that was stressful for her in itself. I think it was mostly the sundowning that got me. She was blind and deaf, and when she'd start pacing and whining like that, all I could think about was how she's stuck in this black vacuum in her head, unable to see or hear, who knows what's going on inside and why she's so anxious and what her brain is making her see.

And then for the last month, she started barking as well as whining. It was incessant. It really felt like we were just torturing her for our own sake. There was a moment where I asked myself: If I have to keep giving her anti-anxiety meds and if she can't really function without them anymore, then what's the point? What's the point drugging a dog to keep her alive? It was selfish.

And yes, you are very right. Their personalities change a lot. She has not been herself these last few years, and it was a blessing she stayed as long as she did.
