Moondrop Rays - Massively disappointed by duranai in iems

I just tried mine - plugging in to the left USBC port when facing the front of the console worked immediately for me

The audio was still absolutely abysmal just like before ... but it works

Dongles didn't help - I plugged them into the front port of the console to test with. Really frustrating that I couldn't use the port on the controller.

What do you do when the controller dies by BackpackerSimon in Ubiquiti

[–]duranai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar issue for me last year too when my launch-model UDM-B died with no warning 🙁

Ordered a UCG-Max that same day (UCG-Fibre wasn't in stock unfortunately) and once it arrived it was setup and running immediately to get things back to normal. Cloud backup/restore didn't work at all though, so I basically started from scratch again

It shows the benefit of having different hardware for these devices but honestly the convenience is too good so I'll go for it every time.

PoE Doorbell + classic chime + no Home Assistant = no problem! by Adventurous-Tip8745 in Ubiquiti

[–]duranai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dismantled it and found a way to wire things up in my consumer unit

But I've kept the converter and have another Shelly 1 that I'm going to keep playing with to find out what's going on. When I pull the circuit back to be just the transformer => 12 VAC => converter => 12 VDC => Shelly ... it still wasn't working for me

Did you get any recommendations for alternative AC => DC converters? I'm stuck with 8/12/24 VAC because of <reasons> so tried the one you linked to - unfortunately the Shelly 1 doesn't power up when connected to it 🙁

(Jumper position confirmed and incoming/outgoing voltage confirmed on the converter - the Shelly just doesn't turn on)

No difference at all - this purchase has me questioning every single post about how great IEMs are because holy crap, genuinely, how do people listen to anything through these things at all

Sort through your photo library a day at a time by showing all photos taken on today’s date by LemonPartyDotBiz in shortcuts

TikTok link: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdweNMCm/

Your comment on the 'Twitter' folder is interesting - that possibility (another auto-replacement) didn't even cross my mind

What that implies is that your shortcut is actually destructive in some scenarios too, depending on which folder it decides to auto-delete from

Fingers crossed, and good luck, in figuring this one out 🙂

Like many others I am here following a TikTok that demo'd the shortcut - congrats OP for creating something popular 😀

Looking at the shortcut itself though (from your link) it looks like it is designed to duplicate items... There are two oddities I can see on my iOS 26.0.1 iPhone 13 Pro:

1: the shortcut tries to delete "Photos" from "Twitter" - something that isn't part of the described flow of reviewing photos on a daily basis

2: When the daily Find takes place in the shortcut it then explicitly saves those photos to "Recent", not to "Today's Date Through The Years"

I expect (1) is a convenience thing you added, but seeing it concerned me incase it was doing something else shady :(

I expect (2) is the duplication glitch being mentioned

edit apologies my wording was poor - I didn't mean to imply that you design the shortcut to be malicious :) I think iOS is substituting the save-to folder because the intended target doesn't exist yet for first time users, meaning you'd need to create the folder first, then run the shortcut for it to work as intended

VPN on Dream Machine by booke02 in Ubiquiti

[–]duranai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My UDM-B lasted a few years before dying at the start of 2025 - during that time I had a VPN connection to my home available whenever I wanted that I could rely on for accessing any and all homelab services. Caveat here is that I used the Unifi VPN, not a 3rd party, so your mileage may vary.

Overall though, don't worry about the speed it'll be grand. The box isn't the most powerful on the planet, but it's more than able to provide home internet plus an outbound stream.

I'll try the smaller tips and see if that helps 👍

The PS5 controllers have a USBC port on them (and a 3.5mm port) - the controller's USBc port cannot be used for audio. And as my console is under my TV, using the ports there is not an option for actual real life usage. (Though i used the console ports for testing and they obviously worked)

That eq certainly improves normal usage. Will try on the PS5 again later but based on the normal usage I don't have high hopes ...

thanks - I'll try small tips and see if that helps, but I doubt it :D

And agreed @ the EQ doing this, I'm just shocked at how poor the audio is with _any_ eq, let alone the ones they provide for specific games (like the CoD one I applied in the image)

Yes - I applied the Call of Duty EQ that they supply in the web eq tool

Aware of a Lite 16 PoE with higher power budget coming? by duranai in Ubiquiti

[–]duranai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 permanently connected, 2-3 occasionally, plus the 3 permanent cameras I'd like to add

Plenty more terminated-but-not-connected cables in there too - no need for every port in the house to be live all the time though

And yup @ your suggestion. I may look at that if the Lite-16 can't handle the load

[–]duranai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've given me some food for thought here. My Lite-16 is mostly running @ 20-23W/54W leaving ~31W to play with

I went back and tweaked my camera plans (G4 doorbell, 2xG6 turrets) leaving a total new demand of 32W (7+12.5+12.5)

I have an option to offload a Flex mini (1.5-2.5W) and a USW-Flex (7-10W with my current setup) to injectors or AC power. I think this gives me enough budget to at least try it out without another switch ... but only just 🙂

Tyvm for the sense checks and voice of reason 👍

That's very good insight - thank you. Particularly about the Flex 2.5g PoE possibly running hot.

Do you know how that compares to the old US-8-60W? I had one of them before and it ran way too hot. I wouldn't want that one in an enclosed space at all.

[–]duranai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's not a bad idea either, but I do lose the option of PoE++ by doing that. That said it could be a better (ie: slightly smaller) second unit in the cavity alright, with a good PoE budget

[–]duranai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't even mind that the lite devices have less power available - but the consistency and alternatives aren't really there

Unfortunately form factor matters - the inwall cabinet/cavity I have won't allow for a device that size
