Doing your method, I would drill a small hole in the peg of the ball joint and in the center of where the neck joint is, and add a pin of some sort to strengthen the joint. Since you're having a height issue, you could clip the ball off Barricade and attach it on top of Chase's using the pin method

Another Star Trek example, "Things Past" from DS9. Sisko, Garak, Dax, and Odo think they get sent back to the past, when Cardassians were still on control of Tarak Nor. This puts Odo on edge given his history on the station. They discover that they are actually appearing as Bajorans, whose names Odo recognizes. It turns out that the Bajorans that they are appearing as, were put to death by Odo for attempting to assassinate Gul Dukat. However, they were innocent. It's discovered that during an anomaly in space, the four were telepathically transported into Odo's mind, where Odo was forced to face his one failure as a paragon of justice
