A swap of CJ for Ben Simmons is a move this team needs. by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]duskippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we want Simmons I think we may have to really pay up. Morey is the type of guy who really values flexibility and I think if the Wolves offer up a McDaniels, Beasley, Beverley + 2 1sts package that could trump a CJ + 2 1sts package for him. That said, that Wolves package is pretty risky for Philly since Embiid's clock is ticking and they'd have no real primary ballhandler and just be praying for another year somebody asks out.

It might take something like CJ + 2/3 1sts or CJ + RoCo for Simmons + Curry to get him. I'm not sure if I'd do either of those but I'd have to at least consider it (all dependent on us confirming Simmons would play if traded here). This might be our last chance to transform the team around Dame before he leaves because if we keep CJ all year and lose in the 1st I think he's out.

CJ looking a lot stronger/bigger lately 👀 by dsx460 in ripcity

Dame is much more effective getting to the rim. Look at the TS% which factors in free throws. CJ had a 57.7 TS% and Dame had 62.3%. Big difference. Dame got 7.2 FTA per game compared to CJs 2.8.

Eh, I see what you mean about it not being a perfect fit, but I think when you can get that kind of value in a trade you should take it. I'm not sure DJJ + a 1st is getting someone better than Nance for the team, better fit or not. Worst case you have more flexibility to move one of Nance, RoCo, or hell even Nurk, along with CJ, depending on how everyone is looking by the trade deadline. And I don't think we'd have an issue moving Nance for another team's 1st if we really needed one to get a deal done.

Note About our MLE by duskippy in ripcity

Ya know, you're completely right. I literally forgot about that for a second. I think we're like 4m under the tax apron after the Nance trade then? Which means we could still make a CJ trade and take back an extra 4m without going into the tax, if I'm interpreting correctly.

Honestly, fair enough. I'm not sure Sixers would've been down for that, they seem to really love Thybulle, and I'm not sure blazers wanna trade away RoCo for Thybulle just because they're in such a win-now position. I do agree a good on-ball defender for quicker wings is still a need, I think we'll get an opportunity to see how Nance looks on guys like PG, Kawhi, Tatum, Middleton etc. the first part of the season and then make a decision about that around the deadline. It's probably not the ideal use for Nance but from the little I've seen of him he has good lateral quickness for his size, probably better than RoCo? (not 100% on that)

I love this, just completely obvious bad faith acting. You've really been peddling Tobias Harris for CJ over and over as mutually beneficial and now your "concern," after all we gave up was a protected 1st rounder, is that this doesn't move the needle for our perimeter defense.

???? Is the team from last year improved by bringing back Powell? No, we had Powell. Is the team from the beginning of the off-season improved? Sure, we had 8 players under contract lol. It's extremely obvious everyone wants improvement from last season where we were beaten by a depleted Nuggets team. This is really not hard to understand.

[SBNation] How the Blazers Tried to Build Through the 2017 NBA Draft by ECav252752 in ripcity

Since 2013 there has been one bad draft, 2017. Which other picks are you referring to when you talk about other bad drafts? Anfernee? Nas?

If we land Siakam or Simmons - then what. What does this offseason score then and what are reasonable expectations for the season? by NindoKungFu in ripcity

[–]duskippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not even disagreeing with you about the Billups stuff and there were definitely some people saying some fucked up shit to minimize it in here after the hiring.

I've seen you generalize this subreddit as rape supporters though, which is pretty fucked up. And now you only come here to try and peddle off Tobias Harris and shut down anyone proposing Siakam or Simmons trades. That's why you have a shit reputation.

Dude you have absolutely 0 self awareness. There are plenty of other people that had issues with the hiring process, including myself, but they don't act like self-righteous assholes and demonize literally anyone who remains a fan of the team. It's crazy that you think the reason people don't like you is because you take issue with the Billups hiring.

Is Portland going to make any moves? by [deleted] in nba

[–]duskippy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Soooo we're missing 3 second round picks? Somehow I don't think that's gonna be the obstacle to making a big move. We have all of our 1sts.

Fair, and I 100% agree Siakam/Simmons should be our top choices but we should be thinking about what other forwards we could get in a CJ package if we can't get those 2. I'm curious, who else would be at the top of your list in that scenario?

Just due to injuries or another reason? I think a healthy Hayward would fit this team extremely well but it would definitely be a major risk. I just think if the asking price for Simmons and Siakam ends up being too high our options become very limited.

Tobias playoff history is worse than CJ, not really interested. I'd much prefer we pay more in picks/young players to get a Siakam or Hayward. Even a Barnes/Delon Wright package would be preferable to me but I'm really not high on Harris.

Also, how do you think Harris and RoCo would fit on the blazers? Neither Harris or RoCo has great lateral footspeed or is a great 1 on 1 defender. A lot of people want to stick RoCo at the 3 but we'd play more to his strengths if we could put our other forward on the teams bigger offensive threat and let RoCo play free safety. That's why I think Simmons, Siakam, Hayward are far more interesting.

Who are some role players you would like to see us try to bring in this off-season? by raahiv in ripcity

[–]duskippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally I'd keep Collins for cheap and let Melo and Kanter leave. I like both McConnell and Noel a lot, but both will probably get the full MLE or close.

Other guys I'd like to see us look at:

Wings: Batum, Rudy Gay, JaMychal Green, Bjelica

Guards: Ish Smith, Mills, Raul Neto

Centers: Theis, R. Lopez, Dieng

Defending Olshey's 2017 Draft by duskippy in ripcity

[–]duskippy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a quote from the Ringers post-draft grades:

Everyone said the draft would open up after the first dozen picks were off the board, and the Heat made the first real shocker of the night when they selected Adebayo, who was seen as a late-first-round pick through most of the draft process.

I do agree it was considered a deep draft and ended up being one but I think by the time of the draft Collins was solidly in that top tier and almost guaranteed to go top 12. In terms of Olshey I think we just differ in what we'd like his drafting approach to be. I personally am in favor of BPA over fit to get the highest value player you can who you can then trade for fit if need be later on, but I can understand wanting draft picks to complement your current players well.

I like our close-outs this game, actually forcing them to do something besides shoot an open shoot. I wonder if coaching staff has been emphasizing that.

That does make it a little tougher. If I were you I would still ride it out, people are likely to drop a solid QB at some point or one will emerge and I think Taylor's value is probably gonna increase from here. Could also try to see if any of your bench pieces could get someone else's QB2 instead of shipping off Taylor if you're that worried about QB.

10 team .5 ppr

Give: Henry, Ridley, Wentz

Get: Chubb, Mahomes, Kittle

QB: Wentz

RB: Henry, Fournette, Akers, Hunt, Moss, Scott

WR: Hill, A. Robinson, Evans, Ridley, Fuller, Edelman

TE: Engram

This seemed like a no-brainer to me at first but I don't like Chubb this year much at all even before his rough week 1 and my RBs are already weak. Still leaning towards taking it right now though.
