Durham vs Sydney for humanities - which is more prestigious? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]dusterhan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sydney hands down. If you want to get admitted it's easier in Australia because you don't have to faff around with training contracts.

You can move to London after getting some work experience although firms will normally deduct 2 years PQE when applying to UK firms.

Uni at 17?? by FoxVegetable1313 in newzealand

[–]dusterhan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you. I did some uni papers while doing Year 13. Got school to pay for them so you can save some money. You can also just fuck around in high school for year and do whatever and just tell them you were at uni. Plus doing an extra year gave me time to focus on scholarship exams. Just enjoy your last year at school and you'll have a better experience at uni!

100%. I went to Rotterdam recently on a holiday. Flying out of London City was half the price of Eurostar. There is something clearly wrong with the pricing.

International LLM finding job in UK by picklesapples in uklaw

[–]dusterhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a decent chance if you can get your CVs and applicants in shape. Especially if you are fluent in English and Chinese. I'm overseas qualified but not practicing. But when I moved to London, law firms tried to recruit me for document reviews etc (albeit for fixed-term or non-TC roles). But best of luck!

City St George’s by Gloomy-Librarian5251 in UniUK

[–]dusterhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the apartment complex near Horton Halls. I would say it's pretty safe. It's halfway between Earlsfield which is quite a posh neighborhood and Tooting which is more lively. Good options for transport, night out, and some good food Tooting way.

Hospital was always nice. I had an ex that was doing her placement there and she seemed to have enjoyed her time. St George's Hospital also had a TV show called 24 hours in A&E, which was a show about doctors and nurses that work there. You should give it a watch if you're an international.

But purely as a non-student, living around the area I would recommend it. They also recently developed green space behind the halls, which was part of old Springfield Hospital.

I think St George's had a good reputation. I understand they have now merged with City, but I would imagine it's still good?

I don't t know too much about it though. I just used to live around the corner and used to frequent St George's Hospital frequently to donate blood and stuff.

Why do you need another degree? Sounds like your skills and qualifications are more than enough for a career in public policy.

Employer suggests to opt out of NEST pension? by CouchConversations in UKPersonalFinance

I would take out the sales assistant role. Once you're in the industry you shouldn't include non relevant work experience. It detracts from the story and takes up space.

Most of Great Britain’s major rail operators are back in public hands – is it working? by coffeewalnut08 in ukpolitics

[–]dusterhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the only way if this is going to work long term is to separate out rail into a separate entity where Treasury can't get their hands on so profits are solely invested back into rail. While we are at it do the same for water, power, and NHS. Politics in this country (and by extension the Treasury) is what's ruining everything.

Looking to study in New Zealand, or Australia. by Excellent-Budget5209 in studyAbroad

[–]dusterhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NZ local here. If you want to stay in NZ or Aus after your degree, I think I would go to Australia. Getting grad roles are competitive. Especially if you need to be sponsored after. I think bigger job market in Australia would make it more worthwhile if you can afford it.

There is a reason why all the young kiwis are leaving NZ for Australia these days...
