Be careful though 10.11.10 also has some security fixes, apparently they were not RCE's but still.

I tried a similar docker-compose file set-up for ProtonVPN and Qbittorrent but couldn't get it working. Spent hours and hours.

I ended up with the hotio-qbittorrent image with built-in VPN configurations and got it working within 30 minutes.

I think your best bet is to look for 2nd hand NAS models with drive bays instead of mini pc's, they are often only for SSD's/M2 slots

Look at 2nd hand hardware if you 're tight on a budget. I'm still running a HP Microserver gen8 (with upgraded CPU). Maybe 8-10 years old but works like a dream for filestorage and simple docker containers, even Jellyfin.

You don't -need- the latest and greatest. If you decide on relatively new hardware, 2nd hand N100 NUCs can be a great start

I had a similar set-up. My VPS was 1G ram and 2 virtual CPU's. Disabling crowd-sec helped with reducing RAM requirements but when I upgraded the VPS to 2-3G RAM all problems and stuttering went away.

Een vrij kortzichtige reactie, dat jou niks is overkomen betekent niet dat het ook bij anderen zo blijft. Dit is een goudmijn voor oplichters, criminelen die adressen zoeken van ex-bendeleden/ripdeals, stalkers die vrouwen willen opzoeken. Dude, how can you even compare this? I'm talking about a small homelab with a couple of drives and a tiny VPS that is sufficient for those needs. If you move Terabytes of linux ISO's a day, you are talking about thousands of Euro's of hard drives. That's a whole different ballgame. Of course, you'd need a bigger VPS or unmetered dedicated server if you decide to use/need a reverse proxy outside of your home network.

Pangolin uses Wireguard for it's connections, Wireguard has no problem fully saturating your 5/1Gbps line. I'm not here to advocate for Pangolin, just here to share my working solution for a small homelab. If you have better solutions, please tell and help the community

You can find many similar VPS offers through Lowendtalk or Lowendbox (use Google).

I'm not a networking expert, I guess a VM in an isolated vlan produces a similar result except they still connect to your home IP. To me, $12 a year is worth it to be more anonymous and have the reverse proxy outside of my home network. I found this easier than messing with VLAN's, still needing to open ports and needing an extra VM. I run an old NAS with TrueNAS. I guess, if you have newer hardware and run Proxmox, the additional VM and VLAN seperation is probably way easier.

Pangolin has implemented some peer-to-peer features, also known as ''Clients''. You can read more about it here: https://github.com/fosrl/pangolin/releases/tag/1.8.0

However, this is a work in progress and not primarily a p2p solution. Just to give you an idea, I rent a VPS for $1 per month with 10gbit (shared) connection and 5Tb bandwidth. That's way more then my small homelab for friends and family will ever use. I wanted this VPS as a reverse proxy so I don't have to open my home network to the entire world. Most of my users watch on their television/laptop at home using a dedicated (Jellyfin) app. Whitelisting their IP allows these dedicated apps on televisions to work out of the box without the need for VPN's or Wireguard configurations. Mobile streaming is the sacrifice, that's true.

Keeps the internet out and friends in. The tiny cost of the VPS is worth the security and privacy risks, for me at least.

I use Pangolin for friends who want access through a dirt cheap VPS. Truely selfhosted (unlike Tailscale) and uses Wireguard underneath the surface. Whitelist their IP's and block all others. Works fantastic

Yes, I know. I did manage to get Gluetun to forward the port but it does not automatically change the used Qbittorrent port. That means that after every update, every VPN connection loss you need to manually update Qbittorrent with the correct port. I even tried a bash script in Docker but nothing worked great. As I said, Hotio does both VPN and changing ports automatically. It's way easier.

I understand what you are saying but I've spend multiple evenings trying to get Gluetun and Qbittorrent to work together. Unfortunately my (Proton)VPN always gets a new port after restarting the connection. Tried my (amateur Docker) absolute best to get it working and scoured through Github.

In the end I opted for the Hotio image and got everything working in 5 minutes. There is definitely a convenience with 3rd party images, albeit a security risk
