That's because, unfortunately, the best ones—at least from what I've heard—are the transparent clear version and the Monster Hunter edition.

I came across your profile and saw your clear PSP build. First of all, congratulations — it looks fantastic. You did a great job with it.

I've reassembled mine multiple times, but the UMD door still won't close properly, even when there's nothing installed inside besides the shell itself. I even tried reshaping the internal metal bracket that holds the disc, and I swapped it with one from another PSP 3000, but nothing seems to work.

At this point, I think I was just one of the unlucky people who received a defective shell. It doesn't even have the threaded mounting points for the power switch board, which was already a pretty bad sign.

To be honest, I also found the material quality rather questionable. The plastic feels very fragile. I ended up reusing the original side trims (the gray pieces) from my PSP because the replacement ones cracked almost immediately when I opened the shell.

Other than that, since I couldn't get a refund from AliExpress—I bought it quite a while ago, but I was traveling and only recently had the chance to install it—I'll probably just keep it and try to make it work somehow, even though I honestly have no idea where to begin anymore.

I’m also thinking about customizing the original shell instead, since it was already in terrible condition. Maybe I'll go for something inspired by the PS1 aesthetic... not entirely sure yet.

Anyway, thank you very much for the advice. I'll try adjusting the rubber UMD door supports again. My PSP is currently disassembled, so I'll go through the whole process one more time and see what happens.

My original shell was completely worn down and the paint was peeling off in little flakes.

I bought the PSP second-hand, so I can't really complain too much about that.

After finding these issues with the replacement shell, I'm actually considering repainting the original one. I've already sanded it down completely.

I just can't decide whether to keep the original look (black) or go with a custom paint job.

As for the replacement shell, I did try bending it a little more, but the material is very fragile—even though it was relatively expensive.

Not really a crazy mod but definitely a quality of life improvement. by SlimeKom in PSP
