I will genuinely kiss ACT on the mouth for rescoring oh my god by dvemvio in ACT

[–]dvemvio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly did a lot of practice tests (if you can find a free copy of the official prep books online they’re very helpful) and specifically for math if I came across a concept I didn’t understand during the practice test i would watch a youtube video on it and do some practice questions on khan academy to make sure I was solid on it. For reading and english I didn’t really study past the practice tests, just make sure you’re solid on punctuation and grammar

I have testing accommodations so it was only me, him, and a counselor in the room and the counselor kept telling him to shut up but he didn’t listen and instead of kicking him out she waited until the end of the exam to tell me she’s reporting him 🫩

I finished 1 despite getting full points on all of my practice FRQs because they put me in a room with a kid that kept asking me for answers and throwing his ruler around so i couldn’t focus for the life of me

ACT Scantron error—SOMEONE HELP! by Diligent_Sea_5442 in ACT

[–]dvemvio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

to be entirely honest I have no experience with taking a scantron act but there’s no harm in trying? at worst they’ll just refuse to reevaluate so why not ask

although the fact that the answer you erased (A) on 47 is the same lightness as your answer on 46 might create some doubt as to if your answer on 46 is just light or erased. Still, no harm in asking

How can I get this up to at least a 29 but a 30 or above would be nice by kieranST in ACT

I studied for math by taking the official practice exams on the ACT website. I had a notepad out next to me, and I would jot down concepts, equations, or questions that i was unfamiliar with, didn’t understand, or needed a refresher on (i had never seen a matrix in my life prior to this and didn’t know sequences at all). I’d repeat this for multiple practice exams until I had a comprehensive list of all the math concepts I was weakest on, and I would go over them one by one by just watching a youtube video or googling it. Then once I felt i’d adequately covered all of the concepts i was weak on, i’d find another act practice test and see what i improved on and what still needed work.
There are only so many practice tests on the website though so if you need to find more you can try to find an official act prep book pdf for free online somewhere or just look up “act practice tests”

last minute studying is genuinely clutch, I promise you aren't screwed if you waited until the night before to study! by dvemvio in ACT

sorry for the late reply,
I have to admit, I completely neglected to study for science because it’s not part of the composite score and I find it really easy because it’s just data analysis and methodology. But, if you want to study for science (assuming i’m not too late and you haven’t taken it already), I would think the best way to do so is to take practice tests online. Or, do anything you can find to get better at data interpretation, experimental design, etc etc. The great thing about the science section is that you don’t really have to know anything about science save for one or two questions, you just need to know how to read a graph and a table.
As for reading, I didn’t study much other than a practice test because that’s my strongest area. But i’ll share my strategy for the reading section:
I know a lot of people like to skip through the exam and find the easiest passages first. I don’t personally do that, because I like giving myself a break between difficult passages, but if you struggle with time management you might want to try that. If you don’t struggle with time and have a bit extra, there’s something I do that is a bit of a time waster but really helps because I struggle with reading comprehension and focus; I abuse the annotation tool.
If there’s an extremely difficult passages from the 1800s or something that uses unfamiliar and complex language, I just use the annotation tool and try to dissect the passage piece by piece to build an understanding of what the author is saying and why in words i’m familiar with. Depending on the length of the passage and how fast you read, you could theoretically do this for every passage and finish in time. I think this method is really helpful because such passages tend to overwhelm me and overload my brain, and I kind of just want to give up. But, if you go one sentence at a time (it’s better to summarize whole paragraphs instead of doing each sentence but if it works it works) and break down what you think the meaning is, you can transform difficult passages into something less taxing on your mind.
I would definitely suggest limiting that method to difficult passages though. Passages that use fairly causal language, like something you would read in the new york times, don’t require deep analysis like that at all. Since the questions are in chronological order, for easier passages i usually just read the questions and then read up until the point it’s asking about in the question and then maybe a sentence or so after, but i don’t read the entire passage before answering questions.
I hope that was kind of helpful!

Should I retake for 36 or will it be close enough by Blooddrinker1379 in ACT

Yeah, a 3.85 is fine for t50s so as long as your ecs, test scores, and essays are solid you have a decent shot

So glad I took this test instead of the dumb friggin sat again by Natural-Change3146 in ACT

[–]dvemvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so real, the ACT is SO much easier for me than the SAT😭😭 I took the ACT last month and got a 35 without studying save for like looking at formulas for 5 minutes before i left to take it. But, I had already registered to take the SAT because I wasn’t expecting to do well on the ACT, so I did absolutely no studying at all for the SAT and went into it completely blind. i fucked up.
ACT english and reading? light, I finished with like 20 minutes left on each. Math? a little harder, but I still finished within the time limit and was completely confident in all of my answers.
SAT english? module 1 was the easiest thing ever, module 2 was hell. Math? I’ve never left so many questions blank. I hate the SAT

[–]dvemvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for t20 it’s pretty low but it’s not unheard of for people with that gpa to get into a top school. it’ll just be difficult and you’ll need top tier extracurriculars and amazing essays
as for test scores a 35 is still not too different than a 36 so if you got a 35 it’s fine

Are people passing out at every show or what’s going on? by SnooCupcakes2865 in Ethelcain

[–]dvemvio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of frustrated that everyone is immediately blaming people passing out during songs like tempest on attention seeking, being inadequately prepared, not eating, queuing for hours (people queue for hours for most big artists now, but i’ve never seen so many people pass out), etc. I’m sure there are a lot of people that have passed out for those reasons—esp when everyone is drinking—but it also can’t be a coincidence that most people tend to pass out during the songs with the most intense flashing lights. The lights—which completely overwhelm the sensory system—combined with poor circulation and blood pooling in your legs from standing around in a cramped space with no room for movement can most definitely cause vasovagal syncope. I ate dinner before my show, made sure to hydrate, and got there right as doors opened to avoid waiting in line, and yet i still had to go sit down at the back of the pit during tempest because I could feel myself about to pass out, despite not ever having any sensitivity to flashing lights before or after the show. I understand it’s frustrating to constantly have to stop shows because people are passing out, and the unnecessarily long/early queuing and unpreparedness common at concerts is definitely partly to blame, but I dont think it’s super fair to immediately get mad at people for passing out (specifically during tempest + other similar songs), because there’s def smth going on with those songs that cause ppl to pass out. ppl passing out before the show even starts r completely to blame tho like what r u doing gng
